Manual Network selection shows up fine with my K790a and Cingular 3G Fireball SIM.
I am betting that if I got the new at&t it would be the same. Now a few weeks ago I stuck my SIM in a branded V3xx and network selection was not there.
Why does it matter if you have network selection or not anyways? Either way, it'll connect to AT&T. I don't understand the complaints...
Several scenarios:
- I want to see what networks are operating in my area
- I am in an area covered by AT&T but I know that I will be driving through a dead zone. That dead zone is covered by a roaming partner's network that also covers the area I'm in currently. Inter-network handoffs are not supported. To avoid a certain dropped call, I force my phone to roam before making a call.
- I have enough AT&T signal to receive text messages, but not enough to make a call. If I do manage to get through, the call dies within seconds. The phone stubbornly wants to hold on to that last bar of AT&T even though a roaming partner's network is much stronger. In order to make a call, I force roaming.

I need manual network selection so that I can use T-Mobile when I am in an area where Cingular is there, but too weak to be usable. I also use it in Wisconsin when I am out of Cingular coverage. When I am in an area served by both Cellular One and T-Mobile, my phone prefers Cell One, but I always manually select T-Mobile, because it is much more reliable than Cell One in areas of Wisconsin where they are both available. If I did not have MNS, I would be stuck using Cell One. Hmmm, I just remembered.......Cingular is temporarily not allowing us to roam on Cell One in Wisconsin.
Probably next month i'll head into a corporate store to get me a new at&t sim . I just want my alpha tag and sim to match, for some reason it bothers me that they don't .
You're not alone!

It's part of the Port law that passed. No carrier is allowed to release a number to another person.
