Question NOKIA 6300 - Set MP3 as ringtone crippled?

How can I set an MP3 file as my ringtone on my 6300? When I scoll to Set Tone it does not allow me, how do I do this? Is it possible to set an MP3 file as a ringtone when I transfer using my USB cable?

    Thanks!

Is it a branded phone? I think fido or whatever carrier that offers the 6300b disables mp3 ringtones in their version of the 6300 firmware. You have to unbrand the phone (flash it to the original unrestricted Nokia firmware, with no carrier logo) to remove the restriction.

you have to buy the ringtone from the fido mobile browser for it to play as a ringtone..

My new 6133 has this same restriction due to it being a TMobile branded phone. However it will play any WMA/WAV files as ringtones without restriction. So I have just used iTunes to convert my MP3s I want as ringtones into WAV files and those have worked perfectly. I even use it to limit the WAV file to the specific portion of songs I want to use as ring tones.

My locked 6300b doesn't work with MP3, but works well with WMA. I just cropped the mp3 using a WAV editor like GoldWave and save the result as a WMA, and it works wonderfully!

thats cus WAV files are larger by about 10x than an mp3, theyre uncompressed.
your phone cant handle all that data. just purcahse mp3 files from the fido site and they will set as ringtone. Also, dont forget, Unbranding voids your warranty

I wonder why they restrict setting mp3s as ringtones. Forces people to unlock phones..

Yes, so either pick very short songs or edit down the song to just the part you want as a ring tone. After all, there is no point in a 4 minute song as a ringtone if after a dozen rings it goes to voice mail anyway, right?

Yea, but this is an 800K file I'm talking about. It is an mp3 ringtone which i converted to WAV.

Is there any software out there to mark an unprotected file copy right protected (just fake it to be set as ring-tone)?

You can always get the phone reflashed and then you don't have to worry about it at all and can use MP3s directly. Otherwise, just make some short WAV files.
