I'm glad I found this forum so that I can let loose my Helio hate. It didn't start out as hate, it actually started out as love. When the Ocean was first released, tech editors all over the net were creaming their panties over the Ocean. Needing a smarter phone (I was using a Razr for a year), I jumped on the bandwagon.
The fact that Helio had a total satisfaction guarantee made it a no-brainer for me. I didn't port my Verizon number - thank God for that (more on this later).
So my Helio Ocean arrives. I call and activate it and all is going well so far, but things went terribly nearly right away. I could send text messages to Verizon, but I could not receive them.
I call tech support immediately. Of course, they can't help me so they give me some code and tell me to call back in four days... Now, seeing as how 90% of my family and friends are on Verizon, this phone created a cellular catastrophe.
I call back four days later. I'm on the phone with tech support for literally an hour. I went up three or four levels and they still could not resolve it. They tell me it's a "network problem" and to call back in a week. On a side note, they were surprised that I wasn't having any other problems with the phone - this made me feel real confident about this phone company (sarcasm). It was now going on week two and I was close to losing my total satisfaction guarantee, so I decided to cancel my service and send the phone back.
I sent the phone back... I was supposed to get a refund between three weeks and 6 weeks or something... Three months went by and I still did not have my refund... Month four rolls around and now I'm pretty pissed that I still do not have my $301 credit.
I called five or six times and they kept giving me the run around... "Oh it went through..." "Yeah you should be getting it"... "Let me flag this for a higher level"... etc etc etc... I heard it all.
I did not receive my refund or any generosity on their part until I called the corporate office in Los Angeles. Yeah, that's some good business.
Basically, this phone company is a joke... The reason they have such bad customer service is because their phones pretty much suck. How is the customer service going to solve bug/ tech related issues? The problems lie with the products and not with the people. You see they are intimately involved.
Anyways, it's funny how they are offering all inclusive for $99 but you don't see their total satisfaction guarantee anymore... What a strange coincidence...
My friend got a Helio around the same time and left around the same time as me. They would not let him take his number back to Sprint. He had to call the FCC and the corporate office before they'd let him pay the cancellation and port his number back.
