I have sold my current Razr and need to mail it today. I have purchased another phone but I have not received it as yet.
Is there a way to "de-activate" my current phone so I can send it to my buyer without transferring my account to the new phone. (that I don't have yet)
Thanks for any info.

call cs and explain your situation, they should be able to put a dummy esn on your line
i tried that because i was gonna sell mine and then buy another once i got paid and they said that they cant do that for me. i dont know if it was because of my plan or anything but give cs a call it all depends on who you get
Yes you can do this. Just ask them to "RELEASE MY ESN" on your phone. Your getting a new one. They will know what that means. Call them when your new phone comes in, or take it into a sprint store. If you don't release the ESN, and the other person tries to activate it, its reported as stolen or used.
They are not suppose to put dummy esn's on someones line and keep it on there more then for the length of the call.Originally Posted by macgyver1
The only reason Sprint has dummy esn's is for when a customer has 2 lines of service and wants to flip flop the phones. We need a dummy to free one up to perform the changes.
Also, an active phone only comes up stolen if the owner reports it. It will only come up saying the esn is not available if they try to activate it when it's already on an account.
Thanks everyone.
I went to a Sprint store and they told me it can't be done.
I can either buy a new phone and transfer the number or go ahead and let my buyer try to activate it and it will cancel my plan and charge me $300 ETF.![]()
etf is 200 I thought ...
Just explain the situation to the buyer and offer them 20 bucks back ...
This works. I had this happen and I just explained that they can get a refund or if they wait, I'll give them a discount.

still, there is a dummy esn tool cs can access and add it to your account which will keep your line active and allow you to sell your phone
