T-Mobile's new plans aren't great...could that be a good thing for us?
So they're making the $29 plan worse and making a bunch more for people who use jillions of minutes...
FamilyTime is no longer competitive with the lack of free nights and inability to add buddytime.
And the lack of free nights as standard fare is just annoying.
Looks like T-Mobile is trying to get more money out of its customers...
Could this be to get funds to improve their service?
Could they beef up T-Zones (which pales in comparison to mMode)
Could they improve coverage in old VoiceStream/Omnipoint markets? (coverage gaps that were 'acceptable' when these networks were built aren't so today)?
Or maybe they're just trying to make more profit...doh
Well, as you noted there are two new plans. They also made two plans better (59.99 and 99.99) and made one worse, effectively raising its price from 29.99 to 32.99 if you want the same features. Other companies are doing the same thing. Verizon's family plan costs $5 more than it used to.
I like the idea of add-on nights, but agree a buddy-time like feature should be offered for the family plan. They already have m2m, so maybe unlimted SMS for $5 per line.
They do need to continue to make the omnipoint markets better. I have family in the Phila and NYC (northern NJ) markets, so I have noticed improvements, but it's not as good as here in DC (which was initially bought from Sprint).
I think theres much better ways to raise money besides charging for services that other companies are including in there plans... Besides they should throw something in to compete with there spotty service.

I know right? lol.....
But if you think about it, it does suck...
Example of small change.
Mcdonalds: I used to get a #11 ( Double Cheeseburger Meal ) Supersized for only $4.04 for 3+ years. Now, A #11 normal sized ( medium ) is $3.95. ** Taxes included **
Thats $.09 difference..... But medium to supersize? Thats a KILLER
My understanding of T-Mobile is that they aren't really making any or much money because they offer so much for so little and that they were really just trying to establish a good hold on the market. Which they obviously did looking at the last couple quarters! Eventually their prices need to go up so they can have money to improve on things like coverage and T-Zones.
My info isn't from studying T-Mo but just from my impressions of reading people's posts. I maybe completely wrong but it makes sense to me when comparing their prices to the other "Big 6."
as a student, $3/month is a lot extra since it comes out to $36/yr.. on a $30/plan spending $360/yr (without tax) on phones is a lot, so every bit you can save is worth it.
or if they raised it to say $5/month than it's $60/yr... just ends up being a lot just for that extra feature when it used to be free.
and yea i might use an expensive phone... but that's cause of the great deals when signing up. i got my s105 for $50; i know if i really needed the extra money i could sell my phone (which i never know when i might have to...)...but hey that extra $36 you used to be able to save definitely helps cover the activation fee or the phone you get.
hopefully the people that used to use talk & text can still use CSD for free?
Well I am college student too but here is the thing T-mobile still offers me the best deal for the price. Nation wide roaming and long distance and more whenever minutes than anyone else. I had the get more 600 before nights and never had an issue. I changed to the one with unlimited nights and I find myself making excuses just to use them. Nights are a gimick. Most don't use them.
As for tzones. That 2.99 is the most important thing oi have. I use ir all the time to find movies, news and weather. I pay close to $100 a month to t-mobile between my phone and sidekick and you know what? I get my moneys worth. I use close to 25 mb of data on the sidekick almost all 800 minutes between the lines. Just my 2 cents.
i too am a student... a student on a fairly tight budget... but your $36 a year crap is exactly that.. i know you're like every other person here.. you'd blow that $36 on a dvd or a few cd's or something else.. that $3 a month on a hamburger or something..
i know it means as little to you as it does to me, you're just trying to make a big issue.
anyhoo.. the feature is still free for the damn people who used the plan with it... they get to keep the same plan and features they had. t-mo doesnt revoke the plans to customers who're currently on them (called grandfathering, buddy).
anyway.. we all know theres hardly any difference between writing the $58 cheque to t-mo or the $61 cheque to t-mo.
that's funny how some people politely put in their 2 cents (thanks coastieboy, i respect your post...25 MB/month, damn, the sidekicks must be sweet) and some people....
yeah as a student i'm just trying have to balance my purchases and prioritize my spending as much as possible, so if i can save $3 here and there it's worth it. I think T-Mobile offers the best rates too; i was getting 250 min/month for $27 at Cingular after a student discount, but it wasn't saving me any money because I was going over the 250 every month. if only TM offered the 10% discount too...
coastieboy: do you carry around both your sidekick and phone all the time? better to have the unlimited data w/ the sidekick than to get a 10 MB plan or something on your phone?
As a T-Mobile family plan user I am disapointed with T-Mobile. Sprint has a 100 dollar plan for two phones and unlimited Vision, and gives 2000 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends, and unlimited mobile to mobile. Now T-mobile charges 20 dollars for each additional line (after 2) and thats the same as sprint. As soon as my contract expires I would get sprint for the same price! AND I GET MORE 800 more anytime minutes, nights and weekends, unlimited vision (internet) and much better service (coverage)! Who wouldnt make this switch!?!?
I tend to end up taking both my T68i and Sidekickw ith me most places. Why? well for one thing, they are two seperate numbers. One is a MN number for family and friends at home and the other is a Florida number for all my friends and work here in FL. I had the FL one first so the Sidekick got the MN one. I also use the sidekick a lot in class for access to e-mail and the web. I am in a media ethics class and tend to access CNN and BBC a lot to get a current story or an example for a discussion in class. It also keeps me sane in class with AIM but that's aside from the point. That said, I still have the $5 SMARTphone T-zones plan on my T68i. That has 1 MB for WAP and another MB for T-mobile Internet so I can get my e-mail on the phone or send pictures with my camera or laptop. So I have both the unlimited sidekick data and the WAP data which I use a lot too. So i guess both things are used for different things. Got any other questions? PM me or e-mail me.

Doesn't sprint have an incompatible cdma network? or do you mean they just bought radio spectrum from sprint?
