I'm almost sure that most CECT phones will not work in the US due to the fact that they are 900/1800 only. The exception is their "CoolPad" series of phones which is CDMA800//GSM900/1800/1900 (and dual-SIM). This can't be fixed with a software patch- if you haven't got a CoolPad (or a Treo- oddly enough Palm Treos are sold in China under the CECT brand) chances are it doesn't have that 1900 band and it can't be added with just a software patch.

I have a CECT 168+ (quad band, dual SIM & both active). Both SIMs work in Canada (which uses the same bands as the US). I believe that the CECT phone that you purchased probably doesn't have the GSM band used in your area.
Fido (monthly plan - personal/data):Novatel Wireless MC950D or Nokia CS-18
Rogers (pay as you go - Canadian prepaid): "Fido" LG Nexus-4
Rogers (monthly BIS data plan): Blackberry Q10
Red Pocket Mobile (US prepaid): Sony-Ericsson c510 or Sony-Ericsson w300i

No you can't since the CECT phones that I've seen are GSM and Verizon is CDMA... I also believe that Verizon like most CDMA carriers don't allow phones that they don't sell to be used on their network.

thats not exactly true... supposedly they are going to lift that ban you will only be able to use text and voice but you should in the very near future be able use other CDMA phones... why anyone would want to is beyond me unless you can use a AU KDDI from japan (which actually uses good CDMA phones) unfortunately they use a SIM style card for theres as well and they now are in the US but are piggybacking off of Sprint...

That's good news if it is true that the CDMA carrier (Verizon) will allow another CDMA phone on their network. I don't live in the US so it doesn't really affect me but hopefully other CDMA companies will follow suit and allow consumers to bring in their own CDMA phones when they sign up with their CDMA carrier.

I'm confused. If Verizon allows customers to bring other CDMA carrier's phones onto their network, what difference does it make if Verizon cripples everything on their own phones?

because supposedly and this is not from ym own first hand knowledge just what a rep at the Verizon store says that if you put a phone on there netowkr and its from another CDMA carrier example sprint it wont work 100% just text and phone calls... there way of crippling it.
see if i got a phone for CDMA where im from and brought it there it still wouldnt work our CDMA is far more advanced and use a "sim type" card for the phone
