Why cant we use japanese phones in the states?

Hi I'm new to this forum, I'm sorry if this is mentioned many times before,
but I just have a few questions:
Why can't we use their phones here? Is it just because of the different frequencies?
Or is there some sort of encryption that's on the phone?
What makes it unlockable? (or so hard to unlock)

Hope you guys can clarify this for me.
    Thanks in advance,

It's a mix of both those things. I suggest you search through old threads to read up on background information about Sharp phones (in this forum anyway).

Being new isn't an excuse for asking the same questions other new people do.

lol its like asking wat is a gsm phone.

well just to give u a hint, japanese like to keep the good things in their own country, it is like wishing to drive a skyline here in the US which u don't see those around as common as a camry.

Two pages haha. run more searches. and just keep reading. its been discussed so many times.

basically. its different technology - different frequencies, locked to carriers and many other things.
