I also think US carriers shun Nokia and SE.....Motorola and Samsung seem to have the US Carrier's in their pocket. You see very few Nokia and SE phone being picked up.

who's interested in a friendly release date pool? considering how long it took the p990 i think i'm going to go with october 2008.

i was excited about this announcement initially before i realized that there will be 2 or 3 new generations of N phones, and likely a new generation of the iPhone before this sees the light of day.

Looks just like my sort of thing, will prob get this phone. I've had N80 for a year now, and have really enjoyed all the messing with different bits of software on Series 60v3, but after a year I don't use any of that stuff and just want a coolio phone that plays music, takes photos and has a touchscreen! Wifi is a serious bonus too, and the blurb says the battery on the P1 is pretty good. So for me it's between the P1 or N95, and I'm tired of slow Nokia menus and poor battery life when using music/wifi etc. Think I'm going to wait for the P1, my last SE was the T68i!

    P1i (coming soon)

I am SO disappointed! Is this the best SE can do? Still no EDGE or 3G!!

The P990i will most likely be my last phone. With Apple making iPhones, by the time the 2nd or 3rd generation comes out, they may be on to something!

huh? the p1 is a 3g phone, even ure p990 is a 3g phone. if the p1 ever gets picked up by a us provider, i'm sure they will change the umts frequency to whatever it is that usa uses.... and if you want to compare a phone to the iphone, the w960 is a much better comparison

They will NOT change the 3G frequency! Not until Tmobile USA finally goes nationwide with its 1700/2100Mhz 3G service and has the numbers to show for it. For Cingular 3G compatible 3G SE phone just look at the upcoming Z760 & K850i.

L Bo! You shouldn't be looking at the P1i as a replacement for the P990. Its like the P910 was to the P900.

Are you sure you're not salivating over the 3.2MP Camera+AutoFocus+LED?
How about the 128MB ROM & 256MB RAM?
What say you to "hopefully" faster bootup, app loading times?
BEST yet, no more OUT OF MEMORY crashing situations.

I'm beginning to like the P1i but its much more power than I need.

I'm considering just going to the W580 for now, then in mid fall to either the W960 - a P1i in disguise no qwerty, or the Dopod C730 for messaging joy.

I don't see anyone wrong with the P1. Heck, the P990i is a very nice phone, still.
