Thanks for the great instructions on how to set this up

Quick question: I did this yesterday and everything is working fine. I just took a peek at my current usage and I see that there is now a line that says "Data: KB Usage: 880.43 KB." Is this just informational? My plan is "AMERICA'S CHOICE II FAMILYSHARE PRI 700 ANY UNL N&W/IN CALL $60.00 2YR 0705". Thanks!

That's just info. ACII uses minutes of usage for data.

    Still confused about free wap

    New member here.

I just upgraded to a VX8350 and changed plan from AC to NW. I understand that AC plan users can use free WAP and not incur the monthly charge. My question is: can NW users avoid the per-minute data charges by using free WAP? If not, it seems that there would be no reason for me to modify the settings. Correct?

    Thank you.

Data is by the minute on ACII. Data is $1.99/mb on a NW plan. Period.

So if you don't have VCast then you don't have unlimited data - don't rack up data charges!

And the reason for changing anything in the WAP Settings or the paramtable1.fil would be purely for customization purposes.

i updated paramtable1.fil and uploaded to my phone. i was careful and did not change anything else (except the 3rd offset to "20"). i rebooted the phone via bitpim and then tried to enter the ##program8550 code into the phone at the start up screen. no luck. it just calls the number and a woman says its not available.

ive tried a few different user's .fil files with no success with the ##program8550 part. ive replaced with the original, deleted, overwritten and nothing works.

    any suggestions?

if it helps, i just got my phone today and am not new to hex editing or using bitpim.

any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Make sure you carefully and exactly dial ##PROGRAM8550 before you hit SEND, if you miss one of the digits or accidentally press another one it won't work and treat it like a number that you are trying to call.

    i've got a question about the paramtable1.fil:
can i use the same file that i backed up from my enV on my new chocolates or will that mess somethin up? Rather than edit the hex file, i already have this file backed up w/ my prefs on my computer, but if i upload the file to my 8550, will it work at all?

I wouldn't, though it might work. It takes 30 seconds to edit the paramtable1.file, so just save and edit the one on your new phone.

Hey... I dunno if this is the right thread to post this in, but I'm wondering if there's any way to enable history saving between web browsing sessions. My chocolate 1 (vx8500) would save my browsing history after I exited the web browser, and as I'm sure we've all noticed, the chocolate 2 (vx8550) will not. Has anyone out there successfully re-enabled this feature?

Ok, so after you do all this, are you still able to access verizon's site and get it now if you want to? Or are you never able to do that again?

Get It Now is completely unaffected.
But to get to any Verizon specific web pages (like the My Account page), you need to be using Verizon's proxy.
The following url's will ONLY work from the Verizon proxy (as you can see by trying to click on any of these from your pc):

So if I use this tutorial to set up WAP, is this just like using Mobile web 2.0? And when using WAP would I get charged for minutes or data? Last question, what features can be used through the hacked WAP, is it internet only or do you get access to other vz services through it also?

Sorry if all of these questions have already been discussed but I couldn't find anything by searching and I didn't read all of the pages of this thread. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Questions of this sort have definitely been asked and answered many times, and I'm sure even in this thread, which isn't that long and reading through it, or even some parts of it, would more than likely answer the questions.

Changing the WAP is using Mobile Web 2.0, just not through VZW's WAP proxy server. You do get charged for data, either in minutes if you are on old/grandfathered AC type of plan, or in MB if you are on a new NW plan (which already has access to VZW's WAP proxy server, so it's usually not necessary to change to a different WAP proxy server for most). You don't really get access to any other features beyond Mobile Web on your phone.
