Could I possibly use my VX8500 paramtable1.fil file with the settings already hacked and just replace the stock 8550 with my 8500 hacked paramtable1.fil file?

Just make the edit on your 8550's paramtable1.fil
It is just one simple edit

Use BitPim and save the OWS/paramtable1.fil. to your pc. Save a copy of the OWS/paramtable1.fil.
Open the paramtable1.fil in a text editor and the hex values start like this in the top left ... the very first row:
    30 1E 00 ........
You want to change it to:
    30 1E 20 ........
Once you do that, you will be able to edit the proxy settings and Homepage url from the WAP Settings menu on the phone itself.
After you replace the paramtable1.fil and reboot the phone, of course.

I figured I would have to do that, so its pretty much the same as the 8500.

That is my standard Copy & Paste. It is the same on every single Verizon LG phone except the Voyager (since that uses a different browser).

telus firmware is different than the Verizon firmware.
I'd check the telus forums and see what the code is.

Someone in this forum may know, but in the meantime I'd check the telus forums.

    1. You did everything who said?
    2. What is it that you have done?
    3. What are you using for a proxy?
    4. What error are you getting?
    5. Does data work on your phone? (can you browse the Get It Now catalog like normal?)

    redo the hack
The phone reset the paramtable1.fil back to its original state.

    EDIT: and see post #305

I have this same problem and I've got my phone set right. Even redid it all just to make sure. Is 165.228.131.12 not a working proxy anymore?

Sure looks like it. That address seems totally dead from here.
Any other public WAP proxies we can switch to?

What is that proxy supposed to be (where did the IP come from)?

As mentioned quite a bit in practically all of the WAP threads, the most common options are http://www.zaksenterprises.com or http://www.hopke.net/proxy.
