    4. set homepage to http://wap.google.com
    5. exit out of there and reboot the phone
    6. go to the web by using the SHORTCUT to News & Info (this is MOST important - if you go to Get It Now > News & Info it will not use the Homepage field, it will use the url that is hardcoded in the paramtable1.fil)

Do those exact 6 steps and let me know what happens. You may only need to do step 6 though. (you can skip 2 and 3 if you want - but if it still fails, then do them - but you MUST do each of the other steps EXACTLY as I have described)
Ok. I followed these steps and the google worked. I then switched the google url in homepage to "http"//wap.humpa.com" which didn't work, then "http://wap.humpa.com/myusername" which didn't work, and a couple other variations. How do you get humpa to work?

    VZW charging for data usage?

    Hi everyone,

This is my first post, please bear with me. I understand flashing firmware, hex, etc, because I'm an electrical engineer. I've been using the free WAP on my Chocolate 2 for as long as this thread has been around (thanks to Dr. Funk & Humpa). I have setup HottProxy and everything has been going smooth. No problems until...

Sometime around June 2008, VZW began charging me for data usage. They are charging me for about 0.02KB at a time - so it is evident that they are not charging for all the data, just some initial transmission or something similar. Sometimes, in the data log it even shows 0.0KB! The time and dates of the charges coincide with my use of the FreeWAP, so I know its related. (If anyone is interested please contact me and I will provide a screen shot!)

I was only charged a total of $4, which is reasonable I guess. But not free. I called them, and since they don't understand the free WAP setup, I convinced them to give me a bill credit. I've done it for the last 3 months, but it is not ideal.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Please check your accounts and let me know.

on the Nationwide plans, data is $1.99/mb ... only the old America's Choice plans is data by the minute.

BTW, this is not something new. The Nationwide plans started last November.

When did you sign up with VZW and when was the last time you changed your plan in any way (perhaps around June)?

I accidentally deleted one of the 3 files in the OWS directory when transferring the modded paramtable1.fil. Im not sure what the files name is, all I remember is that there was 3 files in that directory, I dragged the modded paramtable1.fil into BitPim, and now there are only two files. Unfortunately I only backed up paramtable1.fil, not the whole directory. The other file in there is wdptable1.fil. Could someone please upload the file for the VX8550 v03 thats in the OWS directory that isnt paramtable1.fil and wdptable1.fil?
    Thanks

That's normal, the third file will erase when you overwrite the paramtable1.fil.
It will probably show up again after restart.

    Great, thanks for your help.

Could someone please reupload edited paramtable1.fil with all the already edited links from the first post, it seems to be dead.
    Thanks

    Hi
I successfully edited my paramtable1.fil and got it running, however my phone constantly resets the paramtable1.fil. Is there a way to prevent this, or edit the default paramtable1.fil it reverts to if it is local?
    Thanks

It just seems to happen with some phones sometimes, nothing really can be done to avoid that.

Quick question: Can you still get to Get It Now and use VZ Navigation after making the mods for WAP? It's been a while since I've dealt with this...kinda rusty.

Yes, you can. WAP has no effect on anything else but Mobile Web.

This has definitely all been covered. Even the post right above mentions that WAP has nothing to do with anything except Mobile Web (that includes texting--no effect on it at all).

WAP is basically a proxy server through which you can access internet on your phone. You can use VZW's one for a price, or another one--some cost money as well, some are cheaper, some are free, and you can run and connect to your own. Now, in terms of data, it all depends on what plan you are on--if you are on an older plan like AC you would basically be using up minutes when you access mobile web (as if you were making a non-IN phone call), and if you are on a newer NW plan then data will cost you $1.99/MB, even if you connect to another (free) WAP proxy server (so it's not as useful in that case). If you have V CAST VPak on your line then you already have access to VZW's mobile web (WAP proxy server) and your data is also covered by it, so you won't really need to go down the path of changing WAP proxy servers.

I have Verizon family plan renewed once or twice
will this plan use up mobile web time as minutes?

    also
when using up minutes is it
1 minute web time = -1 minute from minutes on plan
    or
1 minute plan time = some equivilant to kbs/mbs used on phone?
