1. You can edit the settings right from the Service Menu > WAP settings, right?Originally Posted by chrisexv6
2. put in wap.google.com in the proxy field
3. put in 80 in the port field
4. set homepage to http://wap.google.com
5. exit out of there and reboot the phone
6. go to the web by using the SHORTCUT to News & Info (this is MOST important - if you go to Get It Now > News & Info it will not use the Homepage field, it will use the url that is hardcoded in the paramtable1.fil)
Do those exact 6 steps and let me know what happens. You may only need to do step 6 though. (you can skip 2 and 3 if you want - but if it still fails, then do them - but you MUST do each of the other steps EXACTLY as I have described)

I read this in an LG ENV thread:
Any truth to this? This information is readily available in the Verizon LG subform and there has been a lot of discussion about it. Look there in the VX9900 Threads of Interest sticky thread, or a quick search should bring up all kinds of info.
Free is relative I guess though, right now "free" means still using voice minutes of use to get "free" WAP. This will all change soon, as Verizon is converting everything to charge for data usage, so it won't matter if you bypass Verizon's WAP portal or not, you will still get charged for the amount of data that flows to and from your phone. This is reportedly changing in November.
only if you change to a new Nationwide plans.Originally Posted by joshsmith1025
All existing customers and plans will not be changed unless you change something that requires a change to a new plan.
If you change or do nothing, your plan WILL NOT JUST CHANGE! You will still be on your normal minutes of usage for data.
Please read any of the new data plan threads. There are some in this forum, but the main one is obviously in the main Verizon forum.
Anyone have the inside scoop on what's going on with zaksenterprises.com. Starting a couple days ago, my wap (through their proxy server) stopped functioning and shows a 500 Internal Server Error. Their website appears to be down as well.
Hopefully this is just a temporary hitch and not anything permanent, but if anyone in the know could let us know what's going on and when things will start working again, that would be really helpful.
There have been issues with the WAP proxy (and I guess the web site) off and on recently--it's all down sometimes and up other times. Looks like the site is up right now and there's some talk of some (security/attack) issues.Originally Posted by scottbre
Ok, so I think I have gotten pretty far by myself so far. I have got my proxy all set up. I know my proxy is working but here is my issue. When I go to Get It Now > News and Info my proxy log lights up....of course I get a network connection failed on my phone (the whole verizon proxy thing). But when I use the shortcut key I ALWAYS get Malformed URL. No matter what URL I enter into the Service Menu > WAP Setting I get this error. Any advice?
NEVERMIND!!! I tried the www.humpa.com/homepage one at first. On this site itself it says you don't need the http:// but as soon as I put this in the home page BAM everything worked!!!!
I just purchased an 8550 and did this on my phone. Then I read that Verizon was going to start charging for data in November so I changed it back. Since I did this I keep getting text messages at all times of the night from a 757-14. I reply and tell them to take me off but get a message stating they don't understand my message and if I need help reply help. I do that and nothing. Does anyone else get this? or know how to stop it?

Im still unclear about Verizon charging for data usage, if we arent bouncing off their WAP proxy.
Anyway, as far as your text messages, you can use My Account on verizons website to enable text blocking.....you can block all texts, or just put in certain numbers and/or domains. Works great, as I started getting text spam right after getting my new phone.

It is simple - if you are not on a Nationwide plan, then data is by MOU. Period. No if's, and's, or but's.Originally Posted by chrisexv6
Yeah, if you signed up for a plan before November 1st and haven't made any changes that might have affected it since November 1st then you are still on a plan that uses minutes for data (MOU) as it's been the case before these new plans, and nothing at all should have changed for you.Originally Posted by Humpa
Thank you sooo much for all of your help in this matter of the free WAP... YOu guys are awesome, to be able to work this out!!! Maybe in the near future, we might be able to figure out how to send Faxes from our cell phones,... IF you know a way now, let us know. VX8550 thanks again... Gmaster.
So if our family plan has been updated since November 1st this is a bad idea? I forget what plan we went with.![]()
Depends on what you changed and how you really use your plan(s)/phone(s). If you are curious about the new Nationwide plans (and any differences) you can check out the stickied thread in the main VZW forum.Originally Posted by Kevin R.
