Smile iPhone Hack - Could the iPhone work on other service providers?

The coding geniuses who are taking apart Apple’s hot device say they’re within a few days of making it work with cell networks beyond AT&T.

Anyone think this will work? I could see it happening for a few days until AT&T and Apple do an update or something.

i believe not but maybe wrong the iphone works on a sim card and only other service provider thats works off sim is Tmobile. You need a sim for the the phone to work iphone also has a GSM chip Tmobile also others are CDMA radio chip.. I dont think you can have a GSM work well with CDMA. Thats my guess and it seems sound..

Except for just about every other country in the world that uses SIM cards in their phones. Don't forget, there's a bigger market outside the States than in it.

It will work, of course it will.

The question is : Will it be of any use seeing as you'll lose the ability to do it any time you get connected with iTunes?

What will happen is that the person who crack the lock will get hired by Apple and you'll never hear from him again.
