If there was a software update, say one with new applications, would it be free for update just like the one they just released? Just curious if they would make you pay for "extra applications".
The first digit of your serial number. It's on the back of the phone. Apparently there is a difference in screens between 5 and 7. Perhaps other hardware as well.
No they are referring to the lcd part # which is only seen in the Field Test mode. Two of the screens Apple uses start with either a 7 or a 5. There are slight differences and some people think they are from different manufacturers each with their respective part numbers. The serial number on the back of the phone has no bearing on the LCD part number, I think all iPhones have a SN that starts with 7 but I am not sure.
Safari still crashes. It took more surfing to make it happen than usual but it still happened. I was listening to music in the background and the music didn't stop playing...so I guess that's good - although that rarely happened.
I hope in some way, my Safari crash was due to a unique condition that they didn't test yet because if it keeps crashing in the next few days, I may have to switch back to my BB Pearl until the next release.
I was so excited and now...not so much

After reading through Apple, I am VERY pleased to see that earpiece volume has (supposedly) been upped, and that the browsing-while-listening-leads-to-crash bug has been fixed. Fantastic
Past phones: Samsung A530, Moto E815, LG VX8500, Samsung U600, Apple iPhone 8GB, Moto Razr2 V9M, iPhone 32GB 3GS, RIM BB Pearl 8130, BB 9700
I've found that I can't use ifuntastic anymore, jailbreak fails, but on another phone that wasn't hacked before the update ifuntastic works fine now. Anyone else seeing this?
In order to apply the patch, you'll have to restore the phone using Apple's restore THEN apply the update THEN use ifuntastic.

I think the priority was to make sure the music wasn't interrupted like it was happening to many people as the phone's strongest selling point may be the iPod aspect of it. Safari crashing is annoying but I have only had it happen a handful of times in the month I have been using the phone but I am sure there are sites which will most likely push the iPhone's safari over the edge of stability. It is only going to get better.
