anyone figure out a way modded phones can get the update without restoring?
Mine Updated and did not loose any of the 3 new ring tones I added!!
I used the program at www.iphoneringtonemaker.com to install three ringtones for free under the trial version. That was several days ago. I just did the update and had no problems. The three ring tones are still there and the firmware is updated on the phone. I guess they did something different from how others added ring tones.
That was the only customizing I did to my phone because it was very easy and the site said it was not a hack and would not harm the phone.

I guess they knew what they were doing!

No they didn't, first post advertisement guy, if you just added ringtones and didn't mod anything else.. the firmware update wouldn't replace those files.. so they'd still be there and still appear.
Nothing to do with the pay software you're advertising.

Read again Mr. know it all! I bought nothing! I'm Cheap
I only used the free trial and got the 3 free ring tones I wanted. That will hold me until iTunes makes it official the add new ring tones tab.
Don't go buy that software! Just use the free trial and enjoy.
Thank you for your reply Mr. False accussing advertisement police
After reading through Apple, I am VERY pleased to see that earpiece volume has (supposedly) been upped
So far the vast majority of people that have tried the update ARE NOT seeing a volume increase. We'll see what happens over the next few days. In the meantime don't get anyone's hopes up.

Thanks for this, I used Jailbreak and did the update and had to restore and all my custom sounds were gone, but at least this lets me put back ringtones...I only got the trial and put one on and it works, so I may end up buying it...
Another note on the update. Mine actually says it is fully charged now. The big battery that shows up on the front of the screen, when it is charging actually fills up all the way. It never did before.
The first thing I noticed (among others here) was the Passcode Lock timeout - from immediately to up to one hour. Nice.
The second thing I noticed was the fact that it seems to multitask a lot better. If I clicked on a bookmark or link, then shut off my iPhone or go to the iPod section and play a movie, then return to Safari, I noticed the page fully loads (or continues to load, if big). Very nice. Sometimes, I just want to get the page when I'm ready to read it, so now I can click the link then force-sleep my iPhone, knowing I'll have the page when I want it.
ok its final..this is what i needed to see. .ill be getting my iphone this weekend b4 i go camping ..if not after i return early next week....im sure many others where waiting to see the same..you should see a slight jump in sales after this..
so you were holding out for a security patch? They didn't even know about the security issue until what, a week ago? You can buy mine.

exactly - they should have done SOMETHING. Even if it was just one feature instead of the whole collection that has been rumored. Give hope to those holding out. This is why I went back to my backup-phone, and just bought a Nokia N80 tonight - Apple really is disappointing with this secrecy.
Well, there's no question that browsing and e-mail opening now happens quickly, suggesting that there are a number of performance improvements in the Safari browser upgrade.
Let me know if you experience this as well. It certainly is noticeably faster for me.
