Well, the update bombed for me. Almost immediately came up and said the update failed for unknown reason, and put my phone in restore mode. Had to restore it then update it.

I had previously used Jailbreak to hack in a couple ringtones. Of course, they're gone now. Other than that, it came up OK. I had to re-enter my email account passwords. Haven't played with it much to be able to tell what's been changed, however, I think it's still good that there was an update.

So the jailbreak hack works OK? No need to download a new 'restore' file?

I just re-hacked my phone. Didn't have to download anything additional. I just started from the point where you used jailbreak on the phone. Worked fine, and I got my ringtone back in no problemo.

[QUOTE=JerryNY]No they are referring to the lcd part # which is only seen in the Field Test mode. Two of the screens Apple uses start with either a 7 or a 5. There are slight differences and some people think they are from different manufacturers each with their respective part numbers. The serial number on the back of the phone has no bearing on the LCD part number, I think all iPhones have a SN that starts with 7 but I am not sure.[/QUOTE

Thank you. I now think there's alot of misinformation about this. Some calling their phones a 7 series when they really have a 5 because they looked at the SN#. This explains alot of the posts that never made sense to me.

it woould seem that they've updated the GUI priority over the browser load thread priority a bit... And as another person noted, web pages continue to load if you close the browser during loading, or navigate to another menu during loading. You can see the taxation on the processor still though since in the new window, scrolling won't be perfectly smooth. All in all a great start for the update process!

Could some explain to me what this Microsoft Exchange thing for e-mail you all are talking about? Does is have to do with using Microsoft Outlook as your e-mial? I use the Microsoft Outlook Web Access for my school e-mail (www.webmail.mizzou.edu), would this be considered Exchange? If this is true, that would be an awesome thing! Please help me understand!

Yup. It took me 15 minutes to redo my icons, 1 ringtone, carrier logo, SMS received and Voicemail notification sound.

I may skip custom icons for the next update/restore though...

I tried the jailbreak after upgrading to 1.0.1 and it seemed to have bricked my phone.

I think it's because the old firmware files from 1.0 were in the phonedmg folder and now I look like i'm pretty much screwed. It just says please connect to Itunes and Itunes tries to restore the phone but keeps getting a 1603 error over and over and will not restore.

So I dunno what to do.. I wasn't thinking I should have replaced the old firmware with the new firmware when doing the jailbreak again.

Edit: I'm reading other people did exactly what I did.. left all the old jailbreak files and firmware and ran it. I noticed Jailbreak was acting a lot differently than it did back on the old firmware though. Still no success doing a restore though.

    Sigh.

I fixed it.. I rebooted my PC and then tried the restore again and it went through all the way this time.. I'm thinking there was a problem with the iphone service on my work computer. Whew, I feel better now.
