sorry to hear it
currently T-Mobile locks down tmoweb, makes it next to useless
don't T-Mobile have alternative solution for phone-only web users?!

Hello, is anyone else having problems using the Gmail App with T-Mobile? I have a regular razr phone I got when I signed up and I also have t-zones (the basic plan I guess). I am not on a data or internet plan, but it worked for the past year and hasn't for the past few weeks. It just seems like it hangs when it asks to connect.
I can log onto t-zones then go to googles mobile site and log in manually from there but I like the layout of the gmail app, much easier and nicer looking. My google maps app still works fine, but I never use it anyway.
Is there an outage or something? Thanks!!
If you're able to edit your Web Sessions, you can use the proxy server "trick" to get it working again. Copy your "T-Zones" Web Session and change the proxy server and port info, save it as "Proxy" or something, then set that one as your default.
See here's a legit usage of tmobile web as I would understand it... where the recent lockdown HURTS legit customers...
I mean would the OP really buy the 29.99 total internet package for his razr??
I actually just got stung by this.
We came BACK to Tmobile after a crappy 20 days on AT&Tingular. Since they were going to lock us back into a 2 year contract, I figured we should get new phones. They did let us keep out 440 minute Family Talk plan for $50 a month, which was good. And I put the $4.99 Tmobile Web back on the account today.
I picked up a KRZR, because I felt going back to a RAZR would be a step back. Come to find out (I didn't do enough research) T-mob removed the email from the KRZR. So I tried the Gmail app. No dice.
I'm certainly not going to pay $30.00 for that. Blast it!
Well it isn't working on my phone either. I assume I can just use the web client or the browser built in since the phone was unlocked, but its a shame. Im hoping its just a glitch or something.
Lets wait a couple of days and see if we can use it. Otherwise, Ill call to complain ...
It says Unlitmited Tzones includes the following.
Unlimited t-zones for $4.99 includes unlimited Internet e-mail and Mobile Web content.
Gmail is an internet email application.
You need to speak with TMO regarding the definition of "internet email".Originally Posted by ptikjp

My suggestions are
1) Change to the actual internal plan
2) use the tzone plan
I am not going to get into those nasty fights between what-should-be and what-should-not-be while using TZONE plan to access full internet.
I get my Blackberry data plan and I am enjoying it. I don't have to bother about if port 1234 (for example) is shutdown and I cry for help.

Thanks everyone for replying. Regarding the proxy trick, I don't think I can do this with the Razr phone. I went through all the settings and couldn't find anywhere to change it. Like I said my tzones works fine and I can do whatever from inside there. But the gmail app is a java applet I think and I cannot configure any settings from inside it.
I think this is my final straw with t-mobile. I was a heavy sprint pcs user years ago and then their service was horrible (customer and network related). Now with the exception of customer service, I think they have vastly improved in my area (NYC), just from seeing friend's service over the last year. My t-mobile service has been very spotty for the last year and I live adjacent to their tower and numerous others. I have been told calls have not gotten through, no voice mail option (just a dead end, the phone stops ringing), etc.. I thought maybe it was the phone so I switched the sim over to my old prepaid nokia, but same problems. Customer service was of no help.
I was originally happy with t-mobile, but I am now of out contract and I am thinking of taking the jump to Sero, where I can get 1250 min with FULL internet and extras for the same I'm paying now. Add on a moto Q for 99$ minus a rebate, and I can't see any reason not to switch.
Hummm ...
I went online and I only have one other option and that is to add T-MobileWeb ...it's a dollar more ($5.99). I see no other options and I am surely not paying anything close to $20 for internet access on my phone. I do not have a black berry with all those fancy bells and whistles.
I'm going to call again to see what the deal is with this.
The crappy part about this is that the email client doesn't work/exist in the phone either. If it did, you could use MyEmail (which as far as I know is accessible to T-mobileWeb customers) to prod the Gmail (or any other mail) account for you.
So basically it's a double edged sword. You can't use the Gmail App *or* the built in Email client, since it's missing.
Sucks.

What should I change the proxy server and port info to? The same thing happened to me. I can edit my Web Session.
Service Type 1 is HTTP, Proxy 1 is 216.155.165.050, Port 1 is 8080, and Service Type 2, Proxy 2, and Port 2 are the same as for 1. (Copy your T-Zones websession to make the new one and make the changes to the new one, so you can just make one or the other the default.)
This got my email client working again, and Live Search and Google maps, but not the gmail app. Any suggestions?

Seems like I see a lot of people switching over to those Sprint SERO plans lately.Originally Posted by dp80
