    Nokia 6133 - Unbranding / Debranding / Flashing

Hi all... I'm new to the forum, and I apologize in advance if you've heard all of this before... but I got a little frustrated after page 20 or so of the official Nokia 6133b thread... so I figured I'd just post my questions here and hope someone can give me a direct answer, rather than link to a thread with 385,679,429,483,589 posts.

So here's the deal. I want to flash my Nokia 6133 (T-Mobile) so I can remove the limitations that Tmo has put on the phone. I also want to do it myself rather than send it off somewhere. Here are my questions:

    1. What is the difference between 6133 and 6133b?

    2. What is NSS?

    3. What happens if I change the product code to 0535156?

    4. If I put 6131 firmware on my 6133, what will I gain/lose? (I don't want any big surprises... like losing 6133-sepcific features or something).

5a. iUnlock.com shows the current latest version for 6133b to be 6.10. Is that a firmware version?

5b. What does "RM-##" mean? Is it the model of the phone? The firmware?

    6. And the million dollar question... What do I specifically need to do to debrand the 6133?

It seems like there isn't much info on the 6133 out there... I've done a lot of searching on-line, and in these forums; but I never found a thread with a simple, concise summary of what to do. Is there anyone out there who could, in one post, explain the process for unbranding/debranding a 6133?

I deliberately titled this thread with redundant words in case someone in my position conducts a similar search. Hopefully they'll find this thread and save some time from reading 200+ pages of posts on the other one.

    Thanks everyone!

P.S. I saw the following quote from "dckl" on page 211 of the officdial 6126 / 6133b thread:

"Hi everyone! I've read through most of this thread, and I think I've figured out how to unbrand a T-Mo 6133. As far as I can tell (correct me if I'm wrong), I use NSS to change the product code to 0535156 (6131 UK Product Code), and use the NSU to flash the FW, which should then give me generic 6131 Nokia FW? Is that right? Please fill me in on anything I'm missing."

But, I still don't feel like I know enough about the process to go through with it. I just figured I'd reference one of the things I found in case it helps anyone else save some time in looking for it.

And it worked, someone did. I'd love to see more responses to this as I have the same questions.

Well, I ended up getting it to work!!! I got a USB cable for the phone, plugged it into my computer, and used NSS to do the following:

    -Changed product code to 0535156.
    -Checked application access... still failed.
-Performed full factory reset via NSS.
    -Checked app access... still failed.
-Performed second full factory reset via NSS.
    -Power cycled phone.
    -App access still failed.
    -Performed phone factory reset.
    -App access still failed.
-Can't get NSU to recognize phone.
-Changed product code BACK to original code (0537266).
    -NSU still wouldn't recognize it.
-Performed full factory reset via NSS.
    -Performed factory reset via phone.
    -App access still failed.
    -Turned phone off.
-Left it off for a minute or two (never done that before).
-When I tried to power back on, with USB cable still plugged in, XP told me it found new hardware (something about "Nokia ROM parent" or something). Said the hardware installation failed; phone still wasn't on.
-Tried powering it on again... same thing happened.
-Tried a third time, but continued to hold power button down.
-Suddenly the screen came on with a Nokia logo instead of T-Mobile!!!
-Then the Nokia animation showed up!!!
-Now, I run Opera Mini, and it asked me if I wanted to allow it network access!!!

So... I tried my best to remember every step I took... but I may have forgotten one. I honestly don't know *what* I did to fix this. The product code is back to its original! I don't understand... lol. Oh well... it works!

Best of luck to you. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll certainly do my best to help. Bottom line is... I did *NOT* have to change the firmware in order for application access to work.

Well, after reading the 200 or so page thread elsewhere in this forum you mentioned, and reading on other sites I downloaded NSS, looked it over then did a software update with NSU to see how that worked. It said "no update available to version 05.60 would you like to reinstall it anyway?" or something similar, which I did. Naturally the phone stayed exactly the same.Today I used NSS to change the product code to the default Nokia USA one "0532575 RM-126 6126 AMER-N US DEFAULT BLACK" then went to NSU and checked for an update. Now, when I checked it earlier it said version 05.60 as I mentioned but today it says 05.61 available, and I just completed that. The phone took the update just fine and the T-Mobile crap is gone! I've set full mp3s as my ringtone so that is fixed. The only differences I've found thus far is that the IM programs are gone and I see PTT settings. I would like to get the IM availability back although I haven't been using them since getting the phone. The games all seem to be there and working although I don't use them and I guess I'll use it today to see what other stuff is there or not. Anything else I should check to see if it's fully functional?

After read different threads on several forums, I decided to try to flash my 6133 to 6131.
First I couldn't get NSS to connect to my phone, so i figured out that my system is running on vista so i ran NSS in compatibility mode of xp and as an administrator. Then NSS connected just fine so I changed the product code to 0535156 for the 6131 and tried to NSU but it said no update available. So I did a full reset to factory settings on the phone thru NSS and power cycled the phone manually, It booted with the nokia startup and then the tmobile startup, i was then able set mp3s as a ringtone, the IM application was still there(but under the messages menu option), but the music player was gone. I didn't try to use opera mini sorry. I didn't see an email app(if i was suppose to). I tried to update using NSU but there still wasn't one.

So i thought i might have done something wrong for some strange reason and decided to flash back to the original version. i did that by using nss and changing the product code back to 0532575. I did another full factory reset through NSS, power cycled. This time it seemed to goback but not all the way, so I used NSU and did a update this but all of tmobile's crap back on as if it was fresh from the tmobile store.
i might try flashing to 6126 0532575, if do i'll let you know how it goes. sorry for the long msg
    -Damien

I may be wrong but I think your only option to debrand a t-mo 6133 is to go with the 6126 default code 0532075. It worked for me anyway. I do need to note that now that it's done the software updater says it can't update it anymore.

Ditto on finally finding a helpful thread thanks.

Can i get a confirmation that the 6126 code is the only one that works with the 6133. Any limitations from this?

I believe i successfully changed the code to 0532075 with NSS. But when I went to NSU I got message saying "no software updates available for your phone." It said my phone was the nokia 6133b RM-126.

    Tips?

for some reason it's not working for me, i used NSS to change the code to 0532575 the 6126 version and when i bring up NSU it say phone not supported. i'm really lost could i use the 6131 Firmware code? or that one's is different because whats confusing me from trying the 6131 version is the RM-115&RM-126 and i have Nokia 6133 V05.60 RM-126. Any help would be very thankful.

I debranded mine without NSU. I tried changing the product code to 0535156 and doing an update, but NSU wouldn't recognize it... so I changed the product code back to its original (0537266), did a couple factory resets and power cycles, and boom!... debranded.

I hve uses NSS to change to several different codes, but NSU does not recognize any of them have doe the factory re-sets - both with NSS and with the phone. Only managed to loose the gallery icon (gallery is still there - Hpjunior - just fetch it from the go to options and add it to the go to list).

I am wondering if Nokia has changed the updater to not only look at the product code, or is there something else that also has to be done?

I have downloaded and re-installed the updater from both the US and European websites also.
