u plug ur w580 in then u choose phone mode
then u go into SE File Manger and click on My W580
Now u will c 2 folders Phone Mem and Mem card

Drag ur .dm file in here...where the two folders are
dont drag it into the folders but just drag it where u c the 2 folders, into tht window

Once u do tht ur phone will sudden move and it will transfer the .dm file
you will c it on ur phone screen
Now it will place the file in the Music folder for u automatically and ask you if u want to use it now..

If u get all tht you did it right

Follow these steps and you'll be good to go!

    What you need:
    DRM Packager 1.35
    MyPhoneExplorer

    Creating a DRM'd MP3 file:
    1. Install and open DRM Packager 1.35
    2. Drag and drop the MP3 file into the window and click on Create DRM Content.

    Importing MP3 ring tone:
    1. Plug in your w580i. IMPORTANT: Choose Phone Mode
    2. Open up MyPhoneExplorer.
    3. On the left side, click on down arrow beside the word Files.
    4. You will now see Memory Stick and Phone Memory on right side window.
IMPORTANT: Do not go into memory stick or phone memory
    5. Drag and drop your .dm MP3 ring tone into the white window. After successfully transferring, you will not notice if it is done on your computer window.
    6. Check on your phone. It will have a pop up saying you have transferred a music file, click yes to install it into the Music folder.
    7. After that another pop up will come up asking you how to use it. In the list of options, choose "Ring tone" and you are done!

Keep in mind, if you try to install it in a ring tone folder, it will not work. You have to let the phone install the file in a folder for you.

Having said that, now your Rogers w580i is basically all set. You can have your own MP3 ring tone, AND you can play any MP3 music file without having to DRM them on Walkman player.

I'm happy we found a solution but im having some trouble, I've used DRM for my w300i but never the other progrm, when i use the secong program and click the own arrows next to file a message comes up saying it cant find the connection.

If it says cannot find the phone, it means you don't have the proper drivers installed.

I have Windows vista and it was able to install all the drivers for me. I think there were about 6 in total.

    sorry, a little off-topic but I didn't want to create a whole new thread on it;
what's the deal with the Rogers music player and the Walkman? like, what did rogers do to cripple it... do we still use the walkman? or did rogers somehow force you to use its own player? :O

Walkman player is the standard MP3 player that comes with w580i. On my Rogers w810i, Rogers crippled it by not allowing it to play normal MP3 files. But on Rogers w580i, it plays normal MP3 file fine.

Not sure if you know about the music download service that Rogers has. Basically Rogers music player allows you to play Rogers music service files. For about $20 you get unlimited music download and you can play it on rogers music player for as long as you have their service.

About the problem with 1%. Not sure if I can help because I haven't seen this problem. Though I did see the error message pop up now and then, the file still successfully transferred to my phone. I would try again and basically ignore the message you get on computer. Check your phone. After a few seconds it will pop up with a message asking what to do with the file you downloaded.

Hi there, I'm having some trouble with the connection:
After I connect the phone via USB, select phone mode and open up MyPhoneExplorer. when I click at the arrow beside "Files", I get an error msg saiding:
Obex Protocol could not be initialized!
    OBEX Error: NO CARRIER

I tried restarting and uninstalling the software but no luck, if anyone can help it'll be great, thank you

What size is the file you are trying to transfer? If it is large, try a smaller file size and see if the same problem occurs.

Make sure you have all the drivers installed. Also make sure that your phone has reception with SIM inside.
