    Moto phone tools wont let you see any of the file structure. Just 4 empty folders. I can transfer files, but I none will show up in ringtones.
    i found a thread for the verizon w385 that says to get MPT 4.36c. I tried that (and the procedure they reccomend) to no avail. still 4 empty folders, maybe i'm doing it wrong.

    Bitpim wont even recognize the thing. Anyone else better this? I just want a few ringtones like everyone else (a vibe and ring seem would be great too). Im optimistic, but it seems this phone was locked down better than other telus motos

    How To Hack The W385

    Hi guys,

    I figured out how to put ring tones onto the W385. But the thing is that
    you're going to need to use Bluetooth and a USB cord. Unless someone can
    find a way to get the phone to be recognized by Motorola Phone Tools via
    USB / Bluetooth. I used it through Bluetooth the other day and it worked, but
    when I updated it, it just messed up.... So here's the instructions, it’s basically
    hacking it like the razr! This also gives you access to the folders on the phone btw.

    __________________________________________________ _____________

    YOU WILL NEED:
    -> BitPim
    -> Any USB cord that will fit into the phone (sony camera usb did good)
    -> Bluetooth Adapter
    -> Motorola Phone Driver

    INSTRUCTIONS:

    You must first install the Motorola phone drivers. This will enable the phones
    file system to be read in bit pim. Next, you must plug in the phone via usb to
    make sure that bit pim is able to read it. You then must open up bit pim and
    program the phone in the "other cdma phone" category, set the com port to
    the one that says motorola modem. For my computer it was COM 7. You then
    go into the file system part of bit pim and make sure you are able to access
    the file system.

    NOW THE EASY PART!:

    Pair your phone up with the computer and send the ring tones you want via
    Bluetooth. Just make sure you put it in the audio folder.

    Then go back to bit pim and delete the following files in the root folder:
    - MyToneDB.db
    - TmpTneDB.db

    (The root folder is the very first folder at the top with the / )

    Then restart the phone and your ring tones should be in the profile part of
    the phone!

    Enjoy!

    So if I drop some pics in the /motorola/share/picture which two files need to be deleted (if any) before rebooting the phone? I successful added *.jpg files into the phone but it doesn't show in the Wallpapers list, what am I missing?

    I first want to figure out the pics thing then I'll be into the ring tone which as I understand it's not a clear theme as yet.

    Those files are suppose to come back once you delete and reboot your phone.

    you dont need to bluetooth the tones to your phone. I got into the filesystem as you said, and deleted the 2 files. after the restart, the sounds I'd put in with MPT showed up! I've yet to play with doing it from start to finish in bitpim, but it should be just as easy. Maybe I'm not asking too much for vibe & ring, was there a seem for the k1m for that? I dont have the time or pacience to go through 40+ pages of posts. Lemme know!

    Using a USB cable only I can view the file system but when I right click the files you mentioned there is no option to delete them... How can I fix that?

    I've been able to mess around with the file system in p2kcommander and upload ringtones and such with motorola phone tools. I'm pretty sure I can load in everything through p2kcommander but the moto phone tools is a pretty handy tool to use.

    I'm trying to skin my phone though and I didn't have too much of luck last night luckily for me my co-workers all have the same phone so I was able to get back up files from them.

    All this using the USB cable, drivers for the phone are easy to get but they are a pain to load up.

    I am having no end of trouble in trying to get my W385 recognized in BitPim. Is there a special driver I should be using other than Moto's latest one?

    I can get it recognized on Windows, but Moto Phone Tools doesn't see it(somehow I can't get to 4.36c or whatever the necessary version is, it stopped at 4.0.4b or something when I try to auto-update.

    Anytime I try to connect to the phone with MPT it says it couldn't be found after starting the "Please wait. Your phone is being installed and set up." message.

    Here is the message I get when I do get info after manually choosing a V60c Motorola CDMA phone in MPT:

    "Motorola CE, Copyright 2000" -

    International Identification (IMEI):
    Own Phone Number: "**********"

    Motorola Phone Tools - 4.0.4b 12-01-2005 (051114006185)

    I had similar problems all related to the version of MPT. The latest version of MPT does not have a V6C phone to choose from within the list of CDMAs. I went back to version 4.0.4b and it was not listed there as well. When I upgraded from 4.0.4b to 4.36 as McGyver suggested that is when I found the V6C phone to choose from and I was able to get the multimedia studio to work.
