I don't think there's any changes in California ... period.
Northern Colorado looks like it has more coverage (850MHz was added there recently).
    AT&T... your world, throttled.

In case you hadn't noticed, I have AT&T again in addition to my other lines, it was a work related thing, I can check out any new 3G now though, when it comes AT&T will get a second chance with me Hehe We're going to Paradise next Thursday for work Well, not THAT Paradise, Paradise, CA east of Chico in the mountains

Edit-I will have 3G on Verizon and AT&T, it'll be interesting to see if T-Mobile turned up their 3G in Chico, it was supposed to be up in Redding, Chico, Yuba City and Marysville by the end of last month.

Sorry for your luck on that one. Its always painful using a product from a company that tends to give you the shaft. At least its not a personal line.

Coverage changes from 9/18 to 10/2

Here is my visual interpretation of the changes in AT&T coverage maps dated 9/18/09 to 10/2/09. There's quite a bit in this update. If a state was not mentioned I did not find any coverage changes. Remember, this is strictly by visual comparison and nothing more. If you find anything I missed or a location I misrepresented please correct me. Enjoy!

ALABAMA – EDGE only site added to AL 59 north of I-65 in Baldwin County. (A side note: I read Cellular South is buying Coor Wireless, Im curious to see how this affects coverage north of Birmingham in the coming year since Cellular South is CDMA only!)

ARKANSAS – 3G expanded west of Little Rock into Hot Springs area.

CALIFORNIA – 3G expanded along I-10 creating continuous 3G coverage from Palm Springs to Blythe.

COLORADO – 3G expanded in Denver area along I-76 to include Lochbuie (looks like one site was upgraded).

DELAWARE – 3G expanded in west of Georgetown to include Hwy 404.

FLORIDA – 3G expanded west of Jacksonville near US 301 and Lawtey (looks like one site). Also, 3G expansion on west side of Lake Okeechobee to Clewiston and US 27.

GEORGIA – 3G expanded in Augusta on GA and SC side.

ILLINOIS – 3G expansion west of Joliet along I-80 to LaSalle/Peru area.

KENTUCKY – 3G expansion in Louisville to the include I-71 toward Cincinnati, down to Elizabethtown, and parts of Indiana.

MARYLAND – A lot of 3G fill in the Del-Mar-Va along the DE line.

MASSACHUSETTS – 3G fill in between Springfield and Worchester.

MINNESOTA – 3G expanded north of St Paul along I-35 to Rush City.

MISSOURI – EDGE site added to Galena, south of Springfield.

MONTANA – The EDGE site in Missoula seems to have been turned OFF, it now only shows as roaming coverage.

NEW JERSEY – 3G fill in on southern shore, south of Vineland.

NORTH DAKOTA – EDGE Sites added in Bowman and EDGE coverage expanded in Dickinson.

OHIO – EDGE coverage expanded along OH 800 down to OH 7. (Could just be a map adjustment rather than coverage expansion).

OKLAHOMA – EDGE coverage expanded along Hwy 11 near Barlesville and EDGE site added in Wynona.

OREGON – Several EDGE sites added west of Eugene. Looks like coverage was removed east of Florence along Hwy 126.

PENNSYLVANIA – 3G expanded north of Hagerstown MD, including Chambersburg PA.

SOUTH CAROLINA – 3G expanded in Charleston and from Augusta GA east into SC. 3G added to Florence. 3G also beefed up in Myrtle Beach (possible 850 overlay).

TENNESSEE – 3G filled in along I-24 to Clarksville.

VIRGINIA – 3G expansion in center of state to include Highways 230, 20, US 522 and 29.

WISCONSIN – EDGE service expanded west of Oshkosh to include Ripon. 3G site added east of St Paul MN along Hwy 64 (looks like one site).

WYOMING - I know there's one PCS site in Cheyenne, but the map never acknowledges it.

Interesting - I did suspect that the southwest desert of CA would eventually get coverage on 3G... just not sure if it would be 15, 40 or 10 first.

As far as Orgeon goes, word has it that there will be native AT&T coverage into Bend area going online (AT&T/T-Mobile roaming ending).

Yeah, that's true, but at least I'll be able to keep tabs on their 3G upgrades here and across the North State, like the Police sing "I'll be watching you(AT&T)"

Speaking of Bend, Edge had their HQ there, but ironically had neither Edge Wireless or AT&T coverage. I guess it's like US Cellular, they have had their HQ in Chicago for a long time, but only recently got actual service there with the purchase of PrimeCo.

There is also native, 3G coverage in Jackson Hole, WY, it's former Edge Wireless (AT&T Affiliate). It is PCS only also, as are all of Edge's former areas (like mine).

In many areas, waiting for 3G ( or just change in general ) is glacial at best.

You can thank the iphone for that. Without the iphone, I believe ATT would have nationwide 3G.

Same was true of Dobson in Oklahoma City, they had licenses in all of the surrounding counties, but Oklahoma City was an AT&T/Cingular island. I believe Dobson had a special provision in their roaming agreement to allow their employees to have all their usage on the AT&T network in Oklahoma City.

Doesn't it look like Michigan has a little extension towards Ohio for 3G?

edit: nevermind I didn't zoom in LOL

Possibly... even w/o the iPhone 3G (before it was deployed), 3G had capacity issues where I am. The iPhone just made it (and AT&T's capacity) very visible.
    You could have

    a) 3G coverage in a much larger area, but with issues (even w/o iPhone)
    b) 3G coverage being (finally) usable in many areas but not covered nationally.

Even with adding the 2nd carrier channel, AT&T will have to eventually (soon?) deploy a 3rd 3G channel in many metros due to capacity issues.m Expect to see 2G starting to have issues once that is done.
