I have 3G at my place now, that just happened in the past 8 months or so, though still no HSPA+ up here, or LTE, I am sure Verizon and U.S. Cellular will easily beat AT&T to the LTE punch. Seeing how long it took for AT&T to get 3G to my place, and also seeing as they STILL haven't finished 3G in our county (Laytonville, Fort Bragg and Caspar remain EDGE), I am not going to lose sleep waiting on them to get HSPA+ or LTE to me

Sad thing on these maps.... is that there's only some half truths on it.
    1. I 'tested' a 4G device at the AT&T store in Santa Clarita yesterday - 2.7Mbps down, 0.3Mbps up.
    2. Rep stated that there's no 4G here.
    3. I could take my unlimited iPhone data plan to a 4G device.
    AT&T... your world, throttled.

It sounds like Santa Clarita is suffering from the "Our 4G is teh suck" that Santa Rosa and Windsor are up here lol I passed by the AT&T Store in the Santa Rosa Plaza Monday (went down to Lens Crafter's to get an eye exam and new glasses), oh darn oh darn

Well... I know that my 'old' iPhone 3GS typically has no issues - 2.5Mbps is pretty much the norm, and 3-3.6Mbps is anything thats got a good line of sight to a cell panel (even if its a mile or so away).

That's what I usually get around here, I hit 3500 this morning in Ukiah, that was right near a brand new AT&T site (can you believe it? lol) on the North end of town, well actually it's 6 panels on the Jensen Hwy.101 Truck Stop/76 sign, they are painted white like the sign border so they blend in. I will try and get a pic next time, here's the sign though-

It helps when the towers are technically located in Missouri and have AT&T feeding them directly with fiber. The other parts of Southern Illinois (south of I-64) that have Frontier aren't as lucky. Verizon cut Frontier out of the loop and went to microwave right after the Frontier sell-off. Wonder why? Most of the sites were on T1's and couldn't handle the load from Verizon towers. Verizon's loads in general are ridiculous here, you have peak 3G speeds here that get barely over 700 KBps when towers are loaded, late at night they get fast. That's understandable when they're the only 850 carrier that sells actively, we also have Smalltel divested from Verizon owned by Commnet, which is a joke and doesn't have 3G over all of the area, which for a CDMA carrier is a joke, and AT&T which had to build a lot of new infrastructure here just to compete. The old AT&T wireless and Suncom didn't really build out much at all, AT&T expanded service over most of the area. Unfortunately we're in the same boat (outside of Chester which is in 850 MHz spectrum unlike the rest of the area) where only the bigger towns get served 3G, and that's because of 1900 MHz only spectrum. Speeds are favorable compared to Verizon though.

Fiber backhaul for Verizon in Southern Illinois in 2013 - about time.

That, and your area is pretty darn flat In Mendocino County, the elevations vary from Sea Level on the coast to almost 8000 feet at Anthony Peak in the Mendocino National Forest, and we have Redwoods that tower to almost 400 feet, not very conducive to laying fiber

Compared to where you live, it's pretty flat, but I wouldn't call the Shawnee National Forest flat land. Chester itself is on a bluff and is surrounded by some very hilly terrain. Same for the land south of the SIU campus in Carbondale and South of Marion on I-57 and I-24. You're lucky to have USCC where you live, I wish they would have bought the divested Alltel here (AT&T could not buy it because they owned massive amounts of 1900 MHz spectrum.) Allhell here rolls out last year's Droid X as the Milestone X as well as the HTC Merge and acts like it's a big deal.

Yeah, it can be hilly for sure in parts of the midwest.

Been meaning to ask if anyone's noticed any changes.

Just now today noticed that Fort Wayne and Indianapolis are now connected.

    AT&T 4G? I don't think such a thing exists
