I LOVE text as it is way more convenient and everyone has it, there is one girl though that I email because we write so much. I use phone calls when needed or there is advantage to call.

Text is too annoying and expensive for me.... I'll take email with data anytime.
    AT&T... your world, throttled.

Kalispell, MT is now 4G, but in real life nothing appears to have changed. No additional channels, same speeds and pings (which are worse than in 3G Helena).

On July 4, I recieved the push notification from the Mark the Spot app that 3G service will be expanded into the Monahans, TX area (79756) within 60-90 days. It's about time!

As you can see, the 3G (now HSPA+) signal from nearby Odessa/Midland reaches within just a few miles of the area. It's been that way for years, and the EDGE we do have, at the moment, might as well not exist.

Here's a comparison of April to end of June maps... mostly 'enhanced backhaul' updates across the country.

I can honestly say I notice zero difference with Kalispell being "enhanced backhaul" - it's still slower than Helena (not "enhanced backhaul"). AT&T should either drop the 3G/4G distinction for UMTS and call it all "4G" or come up with a better metric for which markets offer enhanced real-life performance.

that's because A lot of the time they already have adequate backhaul and "enhanced" is a conversion over to flat IP which from what I've seen drops latency a little on average.

Mark, I know your a Verizon hater, but I just seen a screenshot on twitter from somebody in Kalispell getting 48MB down on Verizon LTE. Have you tried it out yet?

I'll agree with the first part... I've had slower data in many 'enhanced backhaul' areas than I have in many other areas.

Nope, I haven't, I didn't actually know it was launched yet. Most of my friend group is on AT&T thanks to me. I fully would expect it to perform well. The thing is, AT&T still offers: consistency (no major speed drops between towns or even in other towns like Helena that oddly didn't get it before Kalispell), better customer service (a good friend just got $200 in overage charges dropped by AT&T her daughter racked up - and she didn't even ask them to! She just called to ask about better plans and was found out she just needed to add the numbers to her A-List plan), better coverage, better pricing, and speeds fast enough to stream video which is really all you need and can ask.

I don't HATE Verizon. But until they improve their coverage, customer service, and pricing, I can't see any good justification to be on Verizon.
