i'm using tmobile in the US. for some reason, i couldn't set up to send email (just simple text message going to email account!!) i tried going to tmobile and SE's site to have setup sent to my phone via SMS, doesn't work. when sending email, it keeps on saying cannot connect to server. i called tmobile and they couldn't help (shocker!). any idea how to set it up? i went to the SE corp site, selecting email setting, chose email provider = tmobile mail, incoming server = t-mobile usa. that didn't work either.

    any info is great help!

I could get the gmail setting to work tho. setting it up manually of course. however, i dont want to use gmail too much coz i'm not sure how much tmobile charge me for using that. that's why i'm trying to set up the simpliest text message style of emailing out, i have $2.99 text message plan.

If you're going by the directions of the first post, that leads to the United States support page.

But if you go to the corporate support page, it'll have the settings for every single SE product instead of country specific products (did you notice that the W910 is NOT listed in the US sony ericsson site?).

badteddy - I tried using the US support page, but it only listed ATT (not the old Cingular/ATT) and for some reason the ATT settings would *never* get sent to my phone.

I followed some else's instructions about going to the corp page for the support settings for cingular, and those worked for me.. SE needs to get their s*** straight.

Thank you for your help though.

Hey there guys, read through a bunch of threads tried everything etc. Got an interesting problem for you. Other than the w200a not being one of the phones I can send info to, and I tried other phones settings didnt work. Tried the AT&T device support page, no go cause the phone isn't sold by them (I bought it from Sony). The big deal is i have an OOOLLLD AT&T SIM card from before Cingular bought them and then changed back to AT&T. Is it going to be impossible to get MMS and internet set up on this phone without a new SIM card?

I'd say you are going to need a new AT&T SIM card.

Good news is, I got a new card. Bad news is, nothing has worked so far. Gonna keep trying, but if anyone has any tips for a W200a phone, that'd be great

Have you tried the settings from the w300i on the AT&T device support page?? Those pretty much work for any SE. (You mght have to figure out some of the fields as they might have a different terminology on an unbranded vs. branded phone.)

I'm an idiot, i forgot the "ar" on cingular for the internet stuff. Only problem now is MMS settings which even when I follow the other thread seem to...not work right. I went on the att site and under MMS for the w300i, it doesnt really get specific, just says to select MEdia Net. boo.

    thanks btw!

edit: ok there's gotta be something up, cause i can access the internet just fine, and i have the MMS settings just right, but i get a connection error when i try to get my MMS message.

Any help for T-Mobile folks as far as settings go? I have tried the T-Mobile USA settings for a T610 and that has not gone over too well with me. The Sony Ericsson OTA settings page does not have settings for T-Mobile either. The T-Mobile reps have regurgitated the advice to try the T610 settings so they aren't too much of help either.

Does anyone have the settings to get T-Mobile picture messaging working?

And any reason why I can't send a text message to an e-mail address on T-Mobile, but yet on Cingular/AT&T I was able to?

    Generic questions on MMS/WAP/GPRS settings

I do not wish to go through web sites that send me an SMS to set the phone up, I want to fully understand and set it up myself.

I am with Fido, and the APNs are:
    GPRS: internet.fido.ca
    WAP: wap.fido.ca
    MMS: mms.fido.ca

(username fido, password is the same as username)

On my siemens M55 phone, the setup was quite simple:
A GPRS setting with internet.fido.ca as APN, a WAP setting with WAP.fido.ca as APN etc.

On my new SE 790a, the setup seems different (although more powerful since it allows multple profiles).

In the "Settings", there are 2 major sections:

    Data Communication
    Internet Settings

Is there a simple explanation of what each of those two is used for ? My *GUESS* is that "Internet Settings" is really just "Browser settings". Is that correct ?

In the case of WAP, is there an expectation of a WAP APN in the Data Communication section and an "Internet Settings" pointing to that WAP APN without specifcying a proxy server ? Or does it want a GPRS APN with a proxy server pointing to the WAP APN ? (is there a default port if that is the case ?)

I can get the browser to work using the GPRS APN, but i suspect that the handset is getting raw data from the remote web servers, and I figure that going through a WAP gateway will reduce GPRS costs since fewer bytes will be sent over the air.

The EMAIL works fine with the GPRS APN, as does the one JAVA app I added (Google MAPS).

I got MMS t o work both way by creating a MMS profile in the Data Communication pointing to mms.fido.ca and then going to the messaging settings and setting the "Picture Messaging" to point to that MMS profile in Data Comm.

The small manual that came with the unit was totally useless for this.
