    Here is a short vi tutorial

    On second thought.. You should search the web and look it up.

    If you can't be bothered using vi.

    Install the MobileTextEdit application into your iphone with you favourite tool. I did it by using the installer app on the iphone.

    Once you have the texteditor installed open that file up and make the appropiate change.

    Would this work to use this on T-mobile T-zones $5.99. To set up a proxy?

    1. don't bother looking for than damn EDGE setting. You have to go old school and edit a file.
    2. ssh into your iphone
    3. cd /var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    3.5. cp preferences.plist preferences.plist.orig
    4. vi preferences.plist
    5. search for "cingular"
    6. This should bring you to a code chunk that has the following
    <key>apn</key>
    <string>wap.cingular</string>
    <key>password</key>
    <string>CINGULAR1</string>
    <key>username</key>
    <string>WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM</string>
    7. replace wap.cingular with proxy. Delete CINGULAR1 and WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM. So it looks like the following
    <key>apn</key>
    <string>proxy</string>
    <key>password</key>
    <string></string>
    <key>username</key>
    <string></string>
    8. Save. Exit you session. Reboot your iphone.
    9. Enjoy edge on your old AT&T plan

    Your mileage may vary

    I don't know is SMS works. why?. I'm tired and I'm going to bed.
    You can do any of the steps if you don't have an unlocked phone and at the very least have ssh installed on the iphone.

    Cheers y'all

    Can't say. You will need the following

    1. THe correct dataplan. I don't think $5.99 is going to cut it.
    2. the tmobile apn settings. google it they should be easy to find.

    I would suggest you going into tmobile and asking what is the minimum dataplan they have.

    God Bless you!
    I got it running!!! I have been obseesed with this day since June 29th!!!

    THANK YOU!

    TO ALL STILL NEEDING THIS FIX::

    I might add to use installer to add the BSD then the Mobile Finder Application rather than the Mobile Text Editor. Much safer to use the Finder for the edits.

    Now if someone could help me with the YouTube Files I will be whole!!

    Thanks Again!!! DEV TEAM ROCKS!!!

    I have just unlocked my iPhone using the GeoHot method, and Calls / SMS work GREAT! However when I try to use the EDGE network i.e Safari/GoogleMaps/Youtube, it says "Cannot connect to EDGE"

    Another "old blue" user here. I'm tempted to pick up an iPhone to use on occasion, but checking my SIM, the ICCID starts with 893103801010. Can anyone verify if their SIM starts with the same series of numbers and whether it is working with an unlocked iPhone?

    Also, I've read elsewhere that people are finding their plans getting changed, by virtue of using their AT&T Wireless SIMs in their iPhone. Any truth to this?

    old at&t blue mmode edge settings on iphone

    I got the "old" AT&T blue mmode working on my iphone

    Here are the step:

    You basically need to modify one file and add a new file.

    *** Before you do anything, turn your WIFI OFF on your iphone *****

    the file to modify is
    /var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist

    In this file, search for "cingular", you will find this section

    ----------------------------------------
    <key>apn</key>
    <string>wap.cingular</string>
    <key>password</key>
    <string>CINGULAR1</string>
    <key>username</key>
    <string>WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM</string>
    ---------------------------------------

    replace
    wap.cingular
    with
    proxy

    Delete
    CINGULAR1
    and
    WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM.

    so this section looks like this

    ---------------------------------------
    <key>apn</key>
    <string>proxy</string>
    <key>password</key>
    <string></string>
    <key>username</key>
    <string></string>----------------------

    then find this section, (close to the top of the file)

    <key>Interface</key>
    <dict>
    <key>DeviceName</key>
    <string>ip2</string>
    <key>Hardware</key>
    <string>com.apple.CommCenter</string>
    <key>Type</key>
    <string>com.apple.CommCenter</string>
    </dict>

    add following section after it.

    <key>Proxies</key>
    <dict>
    <key>ProxyAutoConfigEnable</key>
    <integer>1</integer>
    <key>ProxyAutoConfigURLString</key>
    <string>file:///private/var/root/proxy.pac</string>
    </dict>

    Now we are done with this file, next step is to add a proxy.pac file.

    copy text below to Notepad and save it as proxy.pac (make sure it does not have .txt in the file name)

    function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
    {
    if (isInNet(myIpAddress(), "10.0.0.0", "255.0.0.0"))
    return "PROXY 10.250.250.54:8080";
    else
    return "DIRECT";
    }

    then upload to iphone at this directory

    "/private/var/root"

    after finish this, DON't DO anything else, reboot the phone

    You are done!

    BTW: I found the proxy ip address setting from here

    http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/b...hread.id=12670

    and it works for me (I am in Nor Cal).
