    w580i and potential bug w/ R6BC002 f/w

Just a heads up... with the f/w update R6BC002 America 1... I've noticed when someone calls me it only shows up with the number and not the name (even though the name is stored in the phone book). The name and number do however show up in the call list.

I've had to revert back to a older f/w to fix it.

If anyone else can confirm it please feel free to respond!

Thanks for the heads-up! I don't have this phone yet, but I'm planning to debrand the one I ordered as soon as I get it.

Question: Did you also try the 'Generic Trade USA' version of the R6BC002 firmware? I'm wondering what the difference is between that and the 'Generic America 1' version that you used, and if the same problem exists.

    Thanks again.

I use the Generic America 1 firmware and i don't seem to happen to have that problem. It shows both the name and the number when they are calling.

did you use Wotan or Davinci? or was it from an official SE update service?

Then maybe I raised an alarm for nothing... still can't explain why reverting back fixed mine though...

Quick comment on Wotan flashing. I recently flashed my K550 from a european firmware to AMERICA_1. After the flash, it worked fine, however I had only one built in theme, and only a couple of pictures. I realized I forgot to enable AMR, so I flashed it again. Same firmware - the client didn't even download the files again. After the second flash, I had a bunch of pictures, 5 themes, and even an Application (Facewarp) that wasn't there the first time. I have no idea why this happened.

I mention that just so that people know, even when flashing the exact same firmware files, there can be differences from flash to flash, phone to phone, or as my case illustrates, even the same phone.

    UPDATE -

If your on Rogers and have carrier based name display enabled on your account then there is a bug with R6BC002.

The bug is that with name display enabled on your account, incoming phone calls don't display the name with the phone number that is stored in your contact list. If you go to the missed call screen then the name appears.

If the callers phone number is not in your phone book, but is a Rogers/Fido/Bell Canada phone number then the name will show up as part of the carrier based name display service.

Now you can fix this with a f/w update... although Wotan lists R8BA024 as the latest you can't actually get it from them (not sure why). If you resort to another program like XS++ you'll need to find the right combination of MAIN, FS, and CUSTOM PACK to make it work.

It took me about 6 tires to get it to work properly (meaning that an incoming call that is in my phone book shows both the name and number while ringing, and if the number is not in my contact list it will display the name and number that is sent by the network).

Here is the combination that finally got it working for me...

    MAIN: W580_R8BA024_MAIN_NAM_1_LA_RED52.mbn
    FS: W580_R8BA024_FS_AMERICA_1_RED52.fbn
    CUST PACK: Laura_i_CDA102774_20_R1A_Generic_Trade_USA

Hope that helps anyone that might be wondering about this!

The advice still stands though... it looks like SE fixed the problem for the w580i in a f/w update. So hopefully they'll do the same for the K850.

Be warned through (I'll write it up in a separate thread) that if using something like XS++ to fix the name bug by fooling around with different f/w combinations - it took me 6 flashing tries to get it to work as there were many combinations of Main, FS, and custom packs to try.

    Good luck!

I've confirmed this. The R8B firmware does indeed have the green light bug. Such a shame because I actually much prefer the sound quality on the R8B compared to the R6B firmware. Its subtle differences, but makes for a much better conversation over all.

I'll have to live with green light bug now, sound quality is more important for me.

Not sure what to tell you - on mine it works. Are you sure you used all three of those files?

Out of curiosity - did you have to do anything different to get it to work?
