V3xx MMS issues(a locked phone)

Ok, so I have a locked v3xx through cingular, and every time I try to send an SMS, the phone wants to convert it to an MMS, even though I don't add any sounds or pictures. I tried using the phone's setup tools, there's no option to disable MMS. It just looks like it's supposed to automatically determine which to send based upon content. Is there a seem edit I need to look into, or what's going on with this phone? My friends phones don't support MMS(and I've already tried to get them to upgrade), so I need to get SMS back up and running. Any help would be appreciated.

This problem has been asked dozens of times. Searching would be faster next time.

There is a bug that causes this when you have too many messages stored on the phone. Delete your unused SMS's from your inbox and outbox and it should fix itself until it becomes full again.

yeah yeah. It's kind of hard searching when your query is as broad as v3xx+MMS+issues. but thx for the tip.
