'Insert SmartChip' Error in W580i AT&T, Please Help

My brand new w580i Urban Gray (AT&T) is not working. After charging the batteries initially for about 12 hours, I switched it on and it worked for a few minutes after which it shutdown automatically. Now it is showing an 'Insert Smartchip' message and I am not able to use it..

I cleaned and replaced the SIM and batteries a few times, but it gets shutdown after a few seconds and the same error message is displayed..

I called AT&T and they verified that the SIM and the account is active.

Has anyone encountered this error before. Please help..

    Thanks,
    AJ

Did you push the SIM card all the way in until it "clicked"?

Yes that worked... Thanks a lot..
I wonder why the User manual doesn't contain this information.

    Thanks,

You have to jam that SIM card in there pretty deep. I'm afraid of taking my SIM out.. heck, I'm not even sure it's possible!

Someone post a pic of how the sim is inserted? Is it like a memory card (spring activated)?
