    vcast upgrade & wap settings

ive modded my phones & been using the DUN tether & google internet wap with no problems but recently found myself going overboard on the data which used up alot of peak airtime minutes causing me to go over my current plan minutes so i got whacked pretty good on my last 2 bills. due to this i decide to grab the $15 month vcast for the unlimited data and was wondering if i need to change a wap proxy setting to be able to access their internet page for email & news. i currently have my shortcut keys going to the free google page which i use to go to the humpa page and access websites from there. i dont want to lose access to the google page so is there a way to have both of them? i was thinking maybe i can leave one shortcut key to the access the google and change another shortcut key to access the vzw vcast page? if its possible what address would i use and where do i change it? i currently have the edited para file that humpa posted on my phone to get the free wap / google page. the phone i'm using is a silver envy with v.01

you can use the google pages and the others, put the urls in favorites in your browser if your worried about your short cut keys

I think what you need to change is the the proxy and port that you set up for free wap, you need to use the default proxy settings

you want VZW to know your online since you get unlimited airtime thru their proxy with the vcast

If you continue to use the free proxy settings, I think you will continue to get billed minutes

wondering if i should just go back and reload the original para file as that should change back all the settings?

also how would i save the url's in favorites, i tried searching a buds phone who has the vcast mobile web and i was only able to stay within the preloaded vcast pages like sports, news etc through links.., i didnt notice any place to enter any url addresses to access other internet web pages.

its in the menus after opening mobile web use the right soft key and follow the menus

there is favorites and there is a sub menu for entering a URL to save in favorites

I used MW on my vcast phones to access my Gmail and to view this forum

I can't check the menu system on the env because its de-activated while i'm using the Q9m
and i get an error trying to open MW

This is what I did (after I found out I was subscribed to VCAST and never knew it)

I kept the table file that Humpa has stickied here. (So that whenever I use the CHAT shortcut, it would boot the browser into the Google WAP homepage.) I then went into my phone's Wap settings and changed the primary address to the verizon standard one. (So the homepage thing read wap.google.com and the primary address is verizon's)

So now whenever I boot up the browser when using the chat link, it goes to google WAP (mail and weather and general search), then when I go into the menu, I click homepage (1) and it brings me to verizon's wap homepage. Pretty convenient!

thanks bullet that sounds like what i want to do.. could you go through it again in better detail. what is the verizon proxy address that i should put in primary address and i'm guessing i should also change the port to 8080 for primary? did you change anything in the secondary one? also, you're saying i should go into the homepage settings in the wap service menu (5) and change that homepage url which currently says http://homepage to what? after doing this when i hit the shortcut key or use the news & info link in GIN I will still load the google wap page but will be able to access the vcast page from the browser menu? thanks again

VCast is a Brew application, not an actual site. The only way to get to VCast is by clicking on the VCast Get It Now icon/application.

As to the various url's for the Verizon pages, they are right in your original paramtable1.fil. And it is readily apparent which url goes to which page. Check it out.

    EDIT: here they are:
    http://mw2.vzwwap.com/chat
    http://mw2.vzwwap.com/email
    http://mw2.vzwwap.com/newsandinfo
    http://mw2.vzwwap.com/pixplace
    http://myacc.vzwwap.com/selfServe/forms/myacc.jsp
    http://mw2.vzwwap.com/addfavorite/
    http://mw2.vzwwap.com/search
    http://mw2.vzwwap.com/goto

EDIT2: and if you need the original Mobile Web Settings, just use your original paramtable1.fil ... they are right in there.
    proxy/gateway: gw.vzwwap.com
    port: 8080

EDIT3: for more info on wap and how it works, read here:

All the info you need and are asking for has been posted more times than I can count. I know that 9900 wap thread is long, but you will benefit from reading a lot of it (start where I just linked and read for a while).

thanks for the reply and the http addresses. i guess with the vcast plan there really isnt any reason to use a modified para file except to have the ability to change/edit the primary gateway from the service menu, which would then prevent you from accessing the vcast page anyway so why bother? ive read all pages in that tutorial which is how i was able to modify the phone to free wap in the 1st place, it was a very informative thread! as this stuff is new to me, i was just trying to find a way to keep the google page from the modded para file that i have programmed and also be able acccess to the vcast video, email, news pages etc.. it sounded like Bullet had the same idea that i want to do but his instructions left me with additional questions that i needed answered. he said he changed the primary address back to the original vzw but then said when he boots it up it still gets the google page? i will try it by it doesnt sound like it will work..

ok i didnt overwrite the modded para file, i just edited the primary gateway back to gw.vzwwap.com and the port back to 8080 and the vcast page is up, i can also use the go to url in the browser to enter an http address in the google mobilizer page that activates thanks to your modded para file, then i just save as favorite and i'm good to go.. pretty freakin simple and its workin so far. thanks

oops i just realized ive been confusing and calling it the vcast "page" instead of the vzw mobile web page, which is what i meant to call it!! Since i changed back the primary gateway to the vzw wap i can now access the vzw mobile web page with my $15/mo v-cast data plan and then hop to the google page to access the rest of the net.
