From what I have seen, there's not that much improvement over the Sidekick 3.
So if you don't have the money to buy it and you are not qualify for an upgrade than save your money and continue using the Sidekick 3.

Maybe the SK5 will be different and include WiFi, a better camera and video support :-)

Admiral.. by the time the 5 comes out we will expect way more from our mobile devices and how they integrate with rest of our world... and the SK5 will STILL be a disappointment!
I still don't get why LG, Samsung, Nokia, or SE haven't come out with a midrange clamshell QWERTY running a simple but flexible OS with a decent cam. I mean there are enough people on the fringes of the blackberry, sidekick, winmo, palm segments that you should be able to have a decent market success with that.
2000th post dedicated to the best phone ever - The Sidekick
I think you are right - both about the disappointment and other manufacturers
One thing about the sidekicks is that you have to learn to accept the device for what it is. It is really a sms/IM workhorse with a nice browser and big screen. That's all it will be. All the other features it may have are nice novelties. But it is what it is. I am not saying this to bash them, I have a Sidekick 3 and will probabaly get the LX but I am saying this because I have learned to not get my hopes up with Danger. The main things they do, OS and OTA backup, are what keep me with one in my rotation. Just my $0.02.

.. i have to disagree with you on one point...
the browser is not nice...it is ok for viewing wap pages but any phone that runs java (most GSM phones) have the option of getting opera mini and that is a nice browser... iphone has a brilliant browser.... s60 has a great browser.. even UIQ has a good browser. the browser in the sidekick does not render standard HTML well, and, because of the proxy, sites don't recognize the phone as a mobile and redirect to the better looking mobile site so the formatting is pretty awful.
I would say it's just a bit below pocket internet explorer in usability on real web pages.
.. actually .. if they just took the iphone's browser put it in the SK .. I could almost ignore every other shortcoming of the phone...
If any phone had the iPhone's Safari browser I would use that phone too. This is the reason I currently use an iPhone.Originally Posted by manchuia
yeah .. but the iphone has that pesky problem of worrying about every firmware update bricking my phone.
yeah I can play the wait and see game, but I'd prefer not to deal with bugs for the sake of having useful programs on the phone.
if they were to merge the LG Voyager thats coming out soon with the sidekick LX.. that would be a great phone.
I so freakin second that it's not even funny! except it would need a different browser as both phones leave a lot to be desired in the web surfing category.Originally Posted by negronese
LG Voyager hardware (in GSM of course) + DangerOS = great combo!
On the issue of the sidekick (and accepting it for what it is) - I learned to accept it, but like manchuia I think it can be better. I think that if Danger worked like RIM they could have three-to-four models (at least) on the market concurrently for the different user types (they kinda do that with the LX, Slide, iD model), and they would seriously push to get more of a world-wide thing going
Secondly - the browser isn't that great, it's OK, but as mentioned there are other browsers that are better. My N80 has a way better browser than the sidekick that can render actual webpages. It would be nice to have a 'real' browser. If WiFi were available, we could bypass EDGE altogether when in range of a hotspot and browse the real internet. The sidekick does already have a comfortable keyboard, and a great display (especially with the aquos now), so why not capitalize on it? Such a great display begs for video + real browsing.
Not asking for miracles - just want some 'current' tech hehehe ;-)
