I've got to admit that I'm completely new at flashing phones, but I followed your guide and was able to successfully flash to USC then back to Verizon then to Alltel.
Unfortunately, I'm one of the unlucky who only get one shot at the USC flash (so I guess I'll be waiting/hoping for a fix).... but I did want to say that your guide is excellent.
Great work!
Did the guide work to get the alltel firmware working?
and you did use the V9M_02.0B.09P_MONSTER_02.shx and not the usc_v9m_02.0c.12p_prinn13635_monster_01.shx, right?
Before I attempt to flash my phone, is there any report on Vista support? In the screenshots I noticed you used XP... as long as the software runs in Vista, it should work?
Also, I read that you could use "Standalone Mode" if you didn't have another phone to switch to? Isn't the point of switching to another phone to prevent phone calls or data being sent to the phone being flashed? If I did it at like 2 AM when I know I won't be recieving calls, should I be safe?
Thanks for all the hard work Mark, KBMan and others, I'm very excited, as well as nervous, to flash my phone, goodbye VZW UI!

IF the EXACT VERSIONS of the software I used work under Vista... then you should be fine... HOWEVER I do NOT have vista, so I can not confirm.

Please read THIS GUIDE... as it states...
We have NOT tested this process any other way... i.e. if you have only one phone and therefore can not deactivate the V9M from your account while you procced... I can not suggest another reliable way to go about this process, and your results may vary!!
SO.. if you do NOT follow the Guide EXACTLY AS WRITTEN... please do NOT expect it to work perfectly...
Heck, we've seen enough inconsistencies working this out.. that even using this process as written may not be 100% perfect...
Ok, all of that is done Except... I'm not going to add the pictures to the QPST EFS part.. I dont think its necessary... if People post that they want... I'll think about it...
There are some additional seem edits that KBMAN and I are discussing... they will NOT impact the ability to complete this proces, and can be done later... its just some extra things like enabling some menu options, along with the MMA_UCP..
NOW... as written... this guide is exactly what KBMAN and I did to get the phone working...
SO consider the guide READY!!
I may add pre-edited BREW, ERI, Browser and MMS Setting (you would still have to edit the MMS and Browser for your phone number before writing) for those who have troubles backing up.. or editing theirs...
that would be awesome if you pre-edited that stuff thanks again for everyones hard work for getting this all working

Added links to generic copies at the start of section 3C... BUT... you still have to remember to edit the MMS and Browser for your phone number or MIN or MDN before you use them...
I stuck in 9995551212 as the phone number in those files...
the RTT Data DOES contain user specific information... so I can't provide links to a generic one.
Also, are the file locatons the same, and does work need to be done on that? Can BT push a music or a ringtone if it's MP3, and do Sounds have to be QCP?
Does the BT do any more than the VZW, like can you Send the whole phonebook, or just a vCard? Are there any remaning bugs, and finally are there any traces of USCC on the UI.
Do the existing writeups need to be edited, like changing the outer flip when open, or the startup and shutdown animations and sounds?
Yeah.... I used the correct USC monster file. And I did your your guide to get the Alltel flash working too. I did everything exactly the same as I initially did with the USC flash. Everything seems to work except I can't receive picture messages (I think others have the same problem). But yeah, I used the exact same process.

Yes, more work needs to be done... I know that...
ring tones are located in -> /motorola/shared/audio
pictures are located in -> /motorola/shared/pictures
the rest we need to look into...

I have to get with KBMAN and check about Bluetooth... When we first got the USC firmware on the phone... I posted... we see Bluetooth Imaging Profile, Dial-up Networking, Headset Voice Gateway, OBEX File Transfer, OBEX Push transfer. We did successfully push pictures, and a sound from the V9M to the laptop. KBMAN pushed a contact from his Bell E815 to the V9m.
Currently the USC EasyEdge icon and such are used... the browser is the USC icon.
The alternate MMA_UCP may change this. But that is something later..

See the locations listed at the bottom of the page...
To be honest.. we were more concerned with...
Getting the phone working at 1X and EVDO for voice and data... because without that... the rest is meaningless...
Now that we have that... we can dive further into it the FUN Stuff... BUT seeing as this is the Moto UI... i'm willing to bet file locations and fuctions of past Moto UI phones (like Ringtones, pictures, videos, Moto Phone Tools, etc) are the same as Past Moto UI phones...
and yes, this is probably going to be different than on Verizon UI moto's...
PS: that is why most of my more recent write ups do NOT specify file locations inline.. but rather refer you to my FileLocs.htm page... the Programmer background in me likes to re-use code when/where I can... and since the process is the same on many of these phones.. only the file location/name differ... its easy to write one process and re-use it for multiple phones
i have been following the threads and trying to get everything before i flash as i am a noob at this! i think i am ready 2 go. before is start, if this was answered already im sorry, but is there a benifit to using the usc vs the alltel. which is the better to use? thanks for everything guys! u really r the best!

AFAIK.. not everything is working on the Alltel firmware... i.e. I don't think they got the M.IP issue resolved (required for EVDO data)
then again.. KBMAN and I have been working with the US Cellular firmware, and I really haven't kept up with any progress being made by those trying the Alltel firmware.
With the US Cellular everything, including EVDO Data, VzNav, Backup Assistant, DUN, web, etc.. is working. HOWEVER.. No Vcast Video, and no Vcast Audio.
this is fine since i do not use either. there is still a music player tho rite? also, ino that u are exremely experienced but approx how long do u think the whole process should take. i am very busy during the week and want 2 make sure i can devote the time necessary to make this happen.
mark, everyone, thanks again for all the help and the guide. u guys are amazing!
Now that you guys have completed the USC write up and stuff, are you guys gonna work on the Alltel flash at all?
Only if some one can provide some compelling reason to... like some necessary feature that only exists on the Alltel firmware, but not the USC...
AND, of course... assuming Bill lets us keep his phone...
Lets face it... he purchased it... back the beginning of September, the day the phone was available for order... and he has NOT had it in his possession yet!! Its been going back and forth between KBMAN and myself... I'm sure Bill wants to use it... especially now that we got the Moto UI on it..
But at any rate.. now that we have the firmware working... we still need others to confirm the accuracy of the process...
And there is still much work to be done as far as documenting file locations, features, skins? and other stuff...
Pushed mp3s back and forth between my K1m Telus firmware and the V9m just now and it works and they can be saved to the card or phone but only applied as ringtone if saved or moved to the phone memory.
Hopefully will have some time to go over a few things with Mark_V tomorrow evening.
