I can understand data not working, but if calls work, regular texting should as well.

well, again i really have no way to tell, i have texting blocked on my plan (dont want it) so there is no real way for me to test it really. I think when i took this phone in, the guy said that data and the picture messaging won't work, i just throw in that texting at all wont work, not because of the phone, but because its blocked on my plan.

PS: got telus up and running it looks like, currently enjoy some java while playing with java

SweEt! Glad you got 'er done. And now that you said you have regular texting blocked on your account explains why it doesn't work (for the readers).

Yea, just to clear things up, the texting part is blocked, which is why i didn't care if it carried over. When i brought this Verizon phone to Ntelos, they took it to the back and did something to it, but before that they did tell me Data and Picture Messaging would not work. It appears its the same concept of taking your Verizon phone and flashing it to a new firmware, how you have all your settings and such for the Verizon network you have to try to carry over to the new firmware and such. When I did this flash, even though it worked on the Ntelos network just fine, all the settings for stuff like data and texting stuff was all verizon info. So im sure if I do as suggested and get someone who has a motorola phone that has it working, i could just copy down all the required info and get it working properly by just entering the correct info.

    Eek.

So, 81 Pages of people here actually trying to do get to the USCellular Firmware while I'm attempting to get away from it. I have a z6m. I am a USCellular Customer. I followed Mark_Venture's guide; however, neglected to realize that it didn't backup everything from the phone. RTT Data, BREW, Browser, etc. I flashed to DST and then to the Bell Firmware. I have Java working. No Data, No MMS.

I have attempted to flash back to the USCellular Firmware. Upgrade from DST, Monster, Z6TV firmware -> Altell -> USC, the US Cellular Firmware won't boot. Period. I won't flash with the v9m Monster from USC because the keys aren't mapped properly and will have a hell of a time getting it into the bootloader, I fear. So, I was wondering if anyone with the ability to retrieve these files, or anyone who may just have them backed up, upload them somewhere. If ALL of the files could be backed up and uploaded it would be much appreciated to have a good backup of all of them, I think. Please, feel free to remove any personal information that may be located in the files.

    Thanks.

    UPDATE/EDIT:
I just flashed one of my old v3m with a USCellular Monster and attempted to pull the files from there. When I wrote RTT Data the phone went into a constant reboot cycle. Much like when the phone(z6m) is flashed with a USCellular Upgrade/Monster. Interesting.

Well, I am not one of the most knowledgeable folks here on this subject, and the people who came up with this process have all moved on to smartphones. I did just want to point a couple of things out. The guide is for a V9m and you're trying to do it on a Z6m. That might be the first problem as there are only one or two Moto phone models whereupon the flash files are interchangeable. V3m/V3c for sure, but you lose the TF card slot on a V3m using V3c firmware. V9m/K1m if memory serves me right are compatable. I "think" there might be one compatible with the Z6m, but not sure. Also the guide DOES tell you to back stuff up and how. I do know for a fact that pulling files from a V3c/m and trying to put them straight on a V9m (or in your case the Z6m) WILL NOT work as you have already found out.

I just don't know irf you'll be able to find a Monster flash file for a Z6m anywhere out there anymore, as all the sites I knew of that used to have those extensive lists have quit and gone on. I don't have anything for the Z6m, but you are more than welcome to take a look and see if I have anything that would be of help.

    good luck

@Teddy: It's the K1m and L7c that are completely interchangeable. The V9m and Z6m or Z6tv are close, but some stuff is different - maybe the bootloaders? It's a bit of a dark art flashing a Z6m with V9m stuff from what I've read.

@Turbo815: Sorry I can't help a whole lot. Key mappings should be in seem 276b if that does any good. I would tell you to hand-edit the data and OTA seems if you were on Verizon, but I don't have any way of knowing what to put in there for USC. But one bit in one seem wrong can put a phone in a constant reboot cycle (for instance, flashing a Latin American phone with a Canadian upgrade - The default language is Spanish but the Canadian one has French instead). So the phone is probably looking for a data setting that isn't there.

teddyearp I was using a flash for a z6m. The phones are very similar. I actually got everything working by pulling the necessary information from the v3m including RTT Data(Not sure why it was weird the first time) I did have to change the EVDO login information, however. The only issue that plagues me now, on the DST flash is that I do not have the proper BREW Platform ID for the z6m/v9m So the apps I get are supposed to be for the v3m. The Contacts backup app says on their website "Sent from v3m on 4/10/10"

bob Thanks for that info. I didn't need it;however, I may eventually.
I do have a problem that maybe you could help me with.

    Actually, the firmware-interchangeable models are:

    - V3c and V3m (V3m loses TF/SD card support)
    - L7c and K1m

On 4Shared file search you can find quite a few Z6m firmwares (mostly Latin American stuff, like Movilnet/Movistar/Iusacell). Google should help you with the other carriers.

bob I've been scouring the internet for information on this, and I saw a tutorial about the OTA Seems, and I know what I'd put in there. Not sure they'd stick after a reboot on the Bell firmware; however, I'm going to see about flashing with the Telus v9m flash and I may try to pull the keymap seems from the z6m DST flash to see if it can be restored to maintain functionality of the keys with the slide closed.

    Thanks.

Been awhile since I did the flash, about a year or so, and everything went well this time, except: I can't send MMS. When I insert a picture and hit send, it immediately says "Operation Failed"

    Any suggestions?

Pull your .mms file with RSD CDMA General and double check/manually enter the proper values and write it back to your phone. Failing that, you might have to do it all over again.

    good luck

So I posted this on a Z6tv thread, figured I'd add it here as well since the Z6 process is effectively the same as the V9m. That being said, if a flash results in windows failing to recognize the device and the only thing on the screen is blinking between white and off.

Can someone point me in the right direction as to where I should be going from here? I'm no stranger to hacking, but since I can't get into the bootloader and the computer isn't recognizing anything, I'm lost.

Great job guys and gals! (as I resurrect a year old thread lol) On Verizon now from ATT (service issues) and wanted a fun Moto flip again... and not paying for the data for a droid.

Anyways, only 36 pages through this (plus Telus and Crikket threads) but my VZW V9M is working great w/ USC 02.0C.12P and some added seem tweaks. Web and MMS working good but GIN is still DOA (error 3332 I believe) but hoping I can get some added ideas through the remaining pages-yep, checked my MMS, Brew, and RTT files and resent just in case.

Just wanted to say thanks to Mark, kbman, Goldmembr and the huge crew that has made modding my Moto fun again ;-) Can't wait to see what else is in store...

Gr8! As far as GIN, double check (again) your RTT data files and maybe the new menu icon file. I'm really poking around in the dark sort of, since I've been using smart phones now for almost two years. If nothing else, you can always flash it back to VZW f/w, dial *228, redo your backups with RSD CDMA General and try it all over again. I know I had to with my V3m~Vivo.

    good luck

p.s., if you need some files, let me know . . . .
