GUIDE: Using the US Cellular V9M firmware on your Verizon V9M and VZW network...

After flashing to the US Cellular firmware I was no longer able to synch my V9m with my MacBook Pro using iSync. I found that the phone ID string changed (VZW uses V9m while US Cell uses V9mm). I updated my plugin and now iSync works again.

Have you changed the MMA_UCP/MMA_DCP files from the "stock" USCellular ones?

If so, are you using the ones from section 3b1 of the guide? or the set in the customization section at the bottom?

These are the seems that work for bushe on the USC flash for 450 Character texts, the Letter option and EMS messaging. You will need to upload the xxxx.EMS animations as well for EMS to work.

Seem 2742 Record 0001
Offset 0045, Bit 1 - On and Bit 7 - On
Offset 0063, Bit 0 - Off Bit 1 - On
Offset 0092, Bit 6 - Off

Seems 275a and 275b Record 0001
Offset 00f8, change from 32 to 30

Has anyone confirmed this to work on the USC firmware? I can't try until I get my charging/data cable back into my possession, but if anyone knows for certain that this fixes the character limit on the USC flash please let us know.

Yes bushe confirmed it is working on the USC flash. By the way i forgot the 2 seems for enabling EMS. So these are all the seems you need to do all together. If you don't care for EMS messaging you don't have to upload the xxxxx.EMS animations but you should do the seem edits for it at least.

This is interesting... I wonder if that extra M in the string is preventing the phone from entering USB Drive mode. Perhaps there is a slight hardware difference and the moto driver isn't initiating USB Drive mode because of the extra M that shouldn't be there. I was considering editing "Seem 2827, Record 1, Bytes (h) 22, Offset 0006" as taken from http://mark.cdmaforums.com/E815-V3C-Popular.htm , but I was a tad hesitant to do so because it I don't recall anyone doing it before. Does anyone follow... or am I just rambling?

1. Ok, I went ahead and removed the 2nd M in the ID string and it had no effect. I don't have MPT, so I can't say for sure if it removed the studio icon in the process.

Blah... and here I thought I was onto something.


2. Thank you Goldmembr for the streaming video mods! I threw in the files and it worked. The video and audio quality of m.youtube.com is subpar, but I guess they do it so it can actually stream to the phone. Eh, reminds me of vcast video quality... BUT it's youtube, so that automatically makes it far superb to Vcast video. However, I did notice the streaming player gets flaky when you get a text/call while playing. It rebuffers after the call/text is over and takes almost twice as long. It also wont let you END or CLR out when its buffering. I do love how you can toggle full screen on the outside display using the left side button.

Goldmembr: Were the mvod files copied from a V8? Because I did notice the Alkali skin looked like that of the V8. If so, I wonder what else can be migrated over to the V9m...


3. I finally fixed my missing Brew icon with 9-icon view. I erased the GIF files using EFS Explorer (which I was using to upload them) and I copied them back over using P2K Commander and they showed up in the Menu after rebooting the phone. Thanks Mark_V and kbman for the tip!

I can confirm that I have sent several message from lengths of 161 all the way to 400 characters to VZW customers and they all worked but to someone outside of VZW if I send over 160(or maybe 140 or 150) I get a message saying, the handset does not support the message. Also I have tested a few things and found you do not need Letter to be enabled to make the 450 character SMS to work. So here is an updated seem list you need.

In your guide to flash the v9m it says not to go any further if your mms setting saves with a .VMS extension. Does this mean I cant flash my phone? or can I just replace it with the generic one on the page? I've got everything setup and now just backing everthing up, when I noticed the extension. Thanks for any help and I praise you for all your hard work with this stuff! Is it possible to just change the extension?

Got streaming media working on USC firmware with places like m.vtap.com and m.youtube.com. Just use P2kCommander 4.9D to navigate to "brew/mod" and create a new folder named "mvod" then drop the files from the link below in. Then your all set.

This really great. I wonder where the video files go, like when you play a Yahoo movie trailer. It would be nice to move some of them to shared/video.

I've tried both. Goldmembr's custom set changes the menu to 9 items instead of 12, however I cannot get icon view to work with this set. I reverted back to the ones from section 3b1. These work fine.

FYI when using the 9 icon set mma from goldmembr you need to do the 275a offset 0190 seem edit so you get the icon view back. He did post it back a page or 2 in this thread.

@ madadam, there is a seem edit earlier in this thread (I don't remember exactly where), that changes the phone from 12 to 9 icons. If you don't do this then you cannot use 9 icon view (It defaults to 12 on USCC).

@ bushe, I have tried the 160 char. fix and it seems that it changes the fix you found to stop the delivery confirmation messages. Are you currently using the 160 char. fix, and if you are, is there any way you can post or PM me your 2742 seem so I can try it out or at least find the differences?

@ Everyone, Has anyone completed a successful flash from USCC to Bell that would recommend it? I would love to try bell, but I'd love some help if I mess up. I know Goldmembr has been a humongous help in the Bell update thread, but It seems that only a handful of people have actually gotten a complete successful flash.

Thanks man. Did the seem edit and got the 9 icon view. Nice! Only problem now is the BREW icon is missing. I reloaded Goldmembr's 3 icons but still nothing.
