    S30X Complete Guide

    jtopping's S30x Guide v1.0

1)What are the specs of the s300?

    2)Everything java...
The s300 has java built-in, while the s308 does not. I believe the s308 does not have java because it supports chinese characters(thats a lot of chars!) There is no current way to keep the chinese characters and have java supported on this handset. Also, if you have a s300, the only way to download java apps to your phone is via WAP. There is no known way to load java onto your phone via a cable. If you are worried about high bandwidth cost in downloading jar files, just wait until the weekend and use CSD! If you have issues downloading java, make sure your DNS setting is correct. Funbox->Downloads->DNS Setting. Most of the time 'Automatic' works just fine.

    3)The outer screen
The outer screen is one of the coolest features of the s300, but samsung has not implemented any customization into it. It can only display the time and date while idle, and the caller ID name when receiving a call. Also, there is no way to force the backlight on the outer screen to light on indefinately(on the s300 at least). Hopefully a new firmware(or hack) will be out to 'fix' these caveats.

    4)Firmware(embedded phone software)
Updating your firmware as of right now seems to be completely unnessesary. There are "newer" firmwares out there, but they seem to do nothing. All current know firmwares are of version 1.6h, and have different 'steppings'. You can view the steppings from the firmware filename, in the format: S30XXW?? where ?? is the firmware 'stepping'. The newest stepping I've seen is C4. To check your firmware ver/stepping type *#9999# at the idle screen. I would wait for a new version of code to be released before undertaking the headaches of flashing your firmware. If you really want to, download optiflash with s300 support from a random mobile hacking site(or search the samsung forums). Use s105.com's firmware upgrade guide for the proper procedure.

    5)GPRS/CSD Settings for T-mobile.
To set your GPRS/CSD data settings go to: Funbox->WAP Browser->Settings. Then choose the 'profile' you want to edit. Give GPRS and CSD their own profiles. The check next the profile is the one that will be used when you enter the browser.

    Username:wap
    Dial-Up Number:+19132440821
    Call Type:ISDN

    6)Wallpaper and Ringtones
All wallpaper uploaded to the phone must be 128x97 pixels. Use a photo/image editor to crop your picture the way you want. All sounds must be in the .mmf format to be useable. To convert midis to mmf, use the convertor howard mentions in his review of the s300.

    7)Antenna
If you want to put a stubby antenna on your phone, make sure you don't get conned. A s10X stubby WILL NOT WORK on a S30X.

    8)Chargers
Charging assessories for the N625 and V20X will work for the S30X when charging the battery through the phone. Because the battery sizes differ, batteries and desktop chargers made for the S30X phones will work. I have not seen any batteries for sale, but desktop chargers have just sprung up on ebay...

    9)Headset
As stated in Howard's review, standard 2.5mm jack headsets will not work on the S30X. To my knowledge, only the earbud supplied with the phone will work.

If you have noticed anything incorrect or think i should add something, just PM me. :-D

If you hold down the side Scroll button on the sS300 the backlight will come on when the phone is open or closed and ive heard in this fourm that for some reason someone tried a Bluetooth Wireless Headset and it worked.

That would be the guy that tried the jabra bt headset that comes w/ a transmitter that attaches to the phone. The S300 apparently has a propriety jack w/ the push-to-talk button on headset, so most universal ones don't work, but that jabra one did for him.

Another Fido setting from the Fido forums... both worked for me, just that I've had trouble downloading anything larger than 3-5kb with this one

What's the physical (hardware specs) difference between the S300 and S308?
    What about software differences?

I think there might be an error in this statement. I currently use a motorola one-touch headset instead of the headset that came with the phone.

there are no hardware diffs between s300/308

only between those two and 307 and 300m

307 has 850 support, and 300m has different flash chips
***I'm not asking for much, just fair service at a fair price with fair policies. Hell, I will even pay the phone subsidy and stay with the company that offers that for ever, and they don't need to lock me into a contract or give me a killer deal on a subsidized phone to keep my business.*** -poltroop82
