I put this guide together to quickly get everyone going on jailbreaking, activating, and unlocking on either 1.02 or 1.1.1. 1.1.1 Jailbreak, activate, and unlock requires no Windows\Mac usage!
Updating from 1.02 to 1.1.1
If you used anything but Anysim 1.1.1 or IphoneSimFree (that includes iunlock, anysim 1.02, etc) to unlock your 1.02 phone, you MUST virginize your phone before upgrading to 1.1.1 to save a lot of headaches.
After running the virginize scripts, you can safely update to 1.1.1 via itunes.
Jailbreaking and Activating on 1.02 (Windows or Mac needed)
Download 1.02 apptapp at nullriver and run it to install, it will jailbreak within the process of installing installer.
Download and run Paycay (thanks bigboss and xmods for the host), this will activate your phone.
For Mac OSX, use iNdependance
Jailbreaking and Activating on 1.1.1 (No PC needed! Just Wifi)
If you are an iPod Touch user or a legit AT&T iphone subscriber, just activate your phone from iTunes and go to jailbreakme.com in mobile safari.
If you are planning on not using AT&T and another provider (or none at all), read and perform the steps found at appsnapp to get mobile safari up and running on your unactivated iPhone.
Once in mobile safari, go to jailbreakme.com and follow the steps.
After everything is done, you should be jailbroken, activated, and installer app should be on your home screen.
Unlocking on 1.02 and 1.1.1
Once you are using the latest version of Installer app, install Community Sources, then go to Sources at the bottom right, Click edit at the top right corner, and then click add at the top right corner and type in this url: http://markmon.mine.nu:90/iphone/repo/repo.plist.
Refresh the sources and find Anysim 1.1 and install it
Run the the app and your phone should now be unlocked!

Special thanks to Bigboss and xmods for all the help and dedication toward the iPhone scene. Also special thanks to everyone in #iphone on efnet for the wonderful insights and other stuff. And the biggest thanks to the people who found out all this crap, you guys are amazing!
quick question for you people. I'm in the process of running anysim 1.1. After pressing the ok button, it just freezes. Is this normal or is there another screen after you press Ok? If it is suppose to just freeze and unlocking the phone, how long does it usually take?

the entire anysim process took about 2-3mins for me- was relatively slow going. hit go, go take a walk, come back 10mins later.
Hi, I am going to try this process and just had a couple of questions. I currently have a 1.0.2 unlocked iphone and am using my old at&t sim card (not iphone att sim).
When I virginize, upgrade to 1.1.1, jailbreak, activate, and unlock can I keep my current att sim that I am using in the phone through the whole process?
Also, in the guide it says when updating from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1, if Installer is being used on 1.0.2 then MobileFinder needs to be installed and /var/root/Library/Installer needs to be deleted before the update. Installer will be used on 1.0.2 as it is a part of the virginizing process. My question is, after virginizing will I have access to the springboard to install MobileFinder and delete the above file?
If i am a current ATT customer but do not want to activate with an iPhone plan (i still have my old radioshack employee plan and do not want to loose it), do i just need to do the instructions on jailBreakme.com to activate the phone/jailbreak?

if you're still under att, then yes is the answer.

When I did this process, I kept my tmobile sim the whole time.

I kept my installer 3.0 the whole time i was updating. It disappears when you update to 1.1.1. and need to reinstalled it again when you go through jailbreaking and activating again.
Question for this process: When restoring to 1.1.1, do i have to virginize and do all the jailbreaking, activating and unlocking again???

yes, you have to activate it using jailbreakme.com
i am using a 8gb iphone on the ATT gophone network, already had it running for a month, i finally decided to try the jailbreakme.com link and followed the instructions.
i dont need to unlock the phone, i just want access to install different apps. so far i have no problems. youtube works fine, intstaller.app works great, safari is fine. visual voice mail is ok, wifi is connected...
should there be anything i need to be cautious of or worry about???
Still not unlocked after anySIM said unlock....HELP PLEASE
Hi all. I had my phone running great and then I upgraded to 1.1.1. I went though the all the new steps and now my phone is running 1.1.1 and I can use all the phone functions of the phone besides the calling and sms features. It still says, "Incorrect Sim This Iphone must be used with an approved SIM" I ran anySIM and it said that my phone was unlocked after the program finished running. I have been trying to get this to work for the last couple days and I was sure this would work today but it didn't. Does anyone have any other ideas for me? Thanks in advance.
I tried all the steps and I get to where I run anysim, it says I ca't unlock my phone.... I restored and started from scratch and everything. Just restarted my iphone and it says "wrong sim"

ranova, do you have a method that works completely to go from a 1.1.1 phone(that had been unlocked) to a 1.0.2 phone? or at least revirginze 1.1.1. the errors i've been having include my iphone showing 'repair needed', apptapp not completing, and ibrickr not recongizing my iphone.
Maybe I was stupid for telling you goodbye. Maybe I was wrong for trying to pick a fight.
