Guide: Easiest way to Jailbreak, Activate, and Unlock on 1.02 or 1.1.1 (PC optional!)

Just to answer my own question and to help others as well. Once you restore the phone to 1.1.1 even though it came with 1.1.1 So restoring before activating is the key

is the original AT&T sim required to update past 1.0.2? after the virginizing process, is it possible to continue the upgrade without an at&t sim?

INVALID SIM. HELP!

Not sure if this is already discussed.
I have a activated ATT phone but I am currently traveling overseas.
Wth the ATT SIM in the phone I ran the jailbreakme.com method described here on my 1.1.1. The phone was jailbroken, the installer app was fine, and I ran anySIM v1.1 and it was unlocked successfully. I put in the new SIM and I was able to make and receive calls.

Now come the start of trouble.

Later that night, I plugged in the iphone (with the new SIM) to iTunes to sync up new songs (whatever else itunes sync up) and while plugged in I did a hard restart of the iphone. Upon restart, now the phone says INVALID SIM.
I tried to put the ATT SIM back and restart. I tried to run anySIM again but now anySIM says it can't unlock the phone. It seems everything is going wrong with the phone now, even wifi is acting strange.

what do I do???
Should I run restore on itunes with the ATT SIM?
Should I run virginize script?

Please help!

I have a 1.0.2 version phone on an existing ATT (Cingular formerly). I didn't unlock the phone just jailbreak and activate. Hope that is the term.

I would like to update to 1.1.1.
So I don't need to reviginize my phone. I can go directly to itunes and update 1.1.1. Of course 1.1.2 is out and I need to find 1.1.1 file. After which I need to jailbreak & activate again?
Can someone confirm? Thx.

I've read the new guide from ranova. After updating to 1.1.1, will the phone's homescreen read "activate."? I understand from there I need wifi to goto jailbreak.com. Am I going to have wifi access and not phone functions at this stage? I am not planning to unlock the phone, I will be using my current Cingular/data plan.

First off, sorry for the lack of updates and replies. I am currently studying for my admissions exam for Optometry schools so updates will be sparse.

If you want to update to 1.1.1, just update it with this guide:

and then jailbreak and activate using this method:

You do not need to continue to unlock after this step, you are done.

hi ranova, i have a 1.1.1 iphone and tried to unlock using your method without PC, just wifi connection.

i'm already on step 9 but when i accessed the website http://jailbreakme.com it just shows "safari can't open the page because it can't find the server."

i can't proceed to the next step which is to install AppSnapp.

did i miss anything? what did i do wrong?

or do i just need to connect my phone to itunes to restore my iphone or install Carnaval?

what do i need to do next.

I just jailbreak & activate but wanted to see how the unlock works. The last step says to install community source & BSD. I can't find community source under installer but I do see it installed already under the uninstall tab. The purpose of changing the URL is to be able to see anysim1.1? I didn't change any URL link but I do see anysim. Is that all I need to do by running anysim?

I have brand new 1.0.2 and i dont want to upgrade it, i just want to jailbreak it and unlock it. I read your instructions:
1.1) Windows Users: Download 1.02 apptapp at nullriver and run it to install, it will jailbreak within the process of installing installer

1.2) Windows Users: Download and run Paycay (thanks bigboss and xmods for the host), this will activate your phone. This is only needed if you plan on using your iPhone without an legit AT&T iphone plan.
Do i download these software on to my pc desktop and then run them?
Do i have to have my iphone conected to pc?
