Flashing & Debranding with SETool 2 Lite

Hey, I found the files at topsony.com http://www.topsony.com/forum/local_links.php?catid=1393 but I think you have to sign up to get the files - I haven't looked too much into that yet. Could someone please help me with the files though - I don't quite understand which ones to get and why we need three (as per the instructions ...FS, ...MAIN, ...Customalization)

Also, I know the latest firm is R8BF003 but then I have to chose between _RED52 or RED_53 ... is that just CID52 or CID53? (How can I find out which my phone is?)

And then finally when you go into either of those two there's like tons of files. This is where it gets really confusing. I just want to get the Rogers garbage off my k790a and just have a normal English firmware.

Any help is much appreciated.

I followed the guide, flashed my Rogers W580i, and after flashing my phone display is a little messed up:



Anyone seen this problem before?

EDIT: Found macncheese's info with same problem, and he mentions using combination of different firmwares, but doesn't say which ones worked! Downloading the AMERICA firmware files from this thread, hopefully will fix the problem.

Follow-up to my last post: the firmware files in the thread I linked above worked fine.

Maybe the first post needs to be updated with the newer files?

Rebranded worked fine about 20 min ago. Plugged into usb to transfer files wouldnt recognize as mass storage. Unplugged it, won't turn on and blinks a red light under the right side keypad. Blinks about 5-6x. Can't use usb or turn on the phone now. Usb blinks just the same when plugging it in. Now what?

Flashed my phone 2 hours after purchased would have done it faster but had to charge battery to 100%
Great tutorial it worked 100% in my first time the phone looks great!
I Flahed the phone the with the sim card in if it helps anyone. Just make sure that your phone is cid 52 and that setool2tl looks exactly like the picture in the tutorial and im sure that it will work.

WTF?! It debranded but the graphics are all distorted, looks really weird, stretched out some parts are not even on the screen... English couldn't be selected and I could barely navigate with the weird graphics. HELP! w580i

EDIT: everything works, just stretched graphics that go off screen, sometimes a mirror image appears (two of same image on screen), but the functions work, music plays, just something wrong with graphics...

EDIT 2: tried all kinds of different w580 firmwares, hong kong, europe, nothing work. i managed to find a american version of all three files and i am trying that now. every time i flash, it works, but the same graphical issues which i never had on original att firmware. I got the phone today so this really sucks. jungle green wouldn't matter, that's just the color right?

As soon as you fill out your profile, and show what phone make/model, CID, and carrier you are using.

for the problem, I had that happen to me, but I don't know what I did to fix it. I'm pretty sure it was when I was learning how to flash. Get the latest programs to flash, the correct files and reflash on windows XP, and you should be OK, but please post the info needed for someone to help you.

I used the following for w580i (color doesn't matter)/AT&T/North America/CID52:

W580_CDA102568_107_R8A_GENERIC_AMERICA_2 (customer pack)
W580_R8BE001_FS_AMERICA_2_RED52 (file system)
W580_R8BE001_MAIN_GENERIC_LA_RED52 (main)
Setool2lite V1.11
XS++_version 3.1 (for other things)
All on XP sp3, virus scanned and defragged. I can't tell you which USB drivers, because I seem to have them all downloaded and can't remember which ones worked right the first time. If the device is showing up in the software console, then I guess the usb drivers are correct.

Again great post, helped me with my phone when I first got it...

But I recently had to send my phone to rogers for repairs and when I got it back I they had put on the most updated flash version CID53, where as this guide is on for CID52. But fear not, from reading backwards through the posts, #455 has links as to how to flash using JDFLASHER.

Thanks again everyone, as the W580i is pretty much useless with Rogers original flash. Their default theme is loud and obnoxious. I don't understand why rogers won't take the extra time to develop some nice themes and features for their phones. It doesn't even seem like a profit issue as they aren't even selling nice themes on their site.

It seems like the firmwire that was posted was 4 at&t it might not work for rogers. Would it not be completely different?

The America redCID53 version I flashed my phone with works, but my phone has randomly restated 3 times and asked me for a valid sim card... Not sure if this is because of the flash or because my sim card is worn (I've had it for 5 years)

Hey Thnks for the post on De Branding. I just got my W580i from AT&T on 9.1.08 and said F*(( It and went ahead and followed your instructions and it worked great. I couldn't get it to work on my Vista Ultimate 64Bit Macine and had to use my XP Pro SP2 laptop, but nonetheless got it working great. The unbraning is awesome and everything works. I have not experienced any problems with any of the hardware or software features of my phone. I did go to SEUS and download my profiles for AT&T and that might be why everything is working so well after flashing using the Asia files you provided. Thanks again!
