wow, someone has a stick up their a$$. I have never noticed the search function in all the years i've been on this forum. (search within a thread that is). So why don't you just settle down, had I known of the search function, I'd of never posted, because I hate when people don't look, and I know it's annoying. Just wasn't gonna read through 34 pages, and I was unaware of the search function within a thread. So get your head out of your butt, don't be a jerk with your might 2 posts, and next time try to be a little more helpful, rather then rude.

Hey guys. I used to have a debranded w580i but I had to take it back due to one of the buttons not working. So I got a new one, tried to debrand it the same way I did last time, then bam... the phone won't turn on. I searched around briefly but I don't know what to do from here. I learned that AT&T supposedly updated their firmware so the debranding method that this thread provides doesn't work now.

What do I do from here? Is there anything I can do at all or do I should I just try to take it back to the AT&T store? Aaarg this happened at such a bad time. I have a midterm tomorrow and I don't really have the time to try to figure out what to do. Can someone point me in the right direction? Or is my phone bricked for good?

So do you think JDFlash will work for my CID53 version that won't even turn on? I don't have easy access to a windows computer so it's not as easy as "just trying it and seeing what happens." :|

Yup, just take your battery out and power cycle your phone, then try to flash it with jdflash again. Just try it, you've got nothing to lose at this point. Just make sure you have the CID53 files, they can easily be found in this thread, like a couple of pages back.

question... I know it's possible to change the firmware of say att/cingular branded to a generic hongkong/china region firmware to have chinese input/output....

But... is it possible to keep Cingular Branded features and addin the chinese language?

I'd imagine it would be like, firmware/flash it to the chinese region firmware, then add-in the Cingular customizations.....

Anyone know how I would do that? (sorry, I've been out of the loop for quite a while, passing down my phone to my parents, and they can use the chinese labels..etc.)

I'm debranding a w580i from rogers, but I'm encountering some wierd things.

Using the files you provided, in SEtools, I can only select the w580 and not the w580i from the pulldown menu.

Once I've patched the phone, it's trying to fit a large image onto a the screen, almost like it doesn't know what resolution the phone screen is capable of, and then the images loop back up to the top of the screen.

Has anyone seen this?

11 months after purchasing my w580i, I had to take my phone in for warranty repairs to replace a few cracked keys and the navigation ring. Since the phone had been debranded, I was worried that Rogers wouldn't honor the warranty. No problem! They gave me a loaner and I got the phone back after about 10 days.

The downside? As part of the repair, they flashed all the old crap back on again. Once again I have their music player (on a Walkman phone!!!), stupid time-limited demo games, MP3 ring-tone restrictions, no Track ID software, lots of other undesireable junk. Sigh. Now I have to start all over again. :-)

I'm pretty sure that other people who had the same display issue solved it by reflashing. It's a display driver bug and it may not install properly the 1st time for everyone. The same problem has been reported in this thread before. I remember reading someone who resolved it as well. The 580 instead of 580i thing is NOT an issue.

Was able to get the issue resolved, not by just reflashing with the included files, I eneded up with the sae result when I tried that. I definitely was an issue with outputting the display incorrectly, maybe it didnt recognize the revision of the hardware.

What fixed it was flashing it with the debranded firmware, and then using the firware update tool from the Sony-ericsson website that updates you to the latest version of whichever firmware is already loaded on your phone.

it detected the asian firmware, and updated it to latest version of it.

It looks like most of the successful debranders used the DavinciTeam's files available here:

These files are not free, but certainly cheap. Alternatively, you can take your chances with a Google search I suppose.
