Has anyone experienced any problems since debranding?

Sometimes my phone won't read the memory card, but I think this might also be because the door that secures the card if flexible. When pressed, it releases the card and then the phone gives you a warning about formating your card...

Pls let me know if this is a result of debranding or just a loose card door.

This definitely sounds more like a mechanical problem than a software one. All the memory card doors are flexible on this model and I just pressed mine a couple of times for fun: No visible problems or errors. In fact I opened the door and let the card pop out while the phone was on. Still no errors, no message about formatting and when I reinserted the card, all the music files were intact.

This sounds more like a bad mechanical contact than anything else. You might try cleaning the contacts on the card with a conductive cleaning spray, or alcohol.

So is there a itemized list of stuff that debranding enables or let u do?

All I know is MP3 as ringtone and silent shutter sound.

    Thanks

In the settings under "Use proxy" select YES.
For the Proxy address type "wireless.cingular.com"

The port number by default should be 8080. If not, type that in also.

    Username and password aren't necessary.

Once I committed those changes all the test picture messages that were queued in my outbox were finally sent. Let me know whether or not this works

    Thank you this helped alot

if this does not work for you then you need to check what YOU and your PC are doing ..... there is nothing wrong with the software

This might be a good topic for everyone to participate in. There are lots of messages in this thread, but no absolute list. WHY NOT QUOTE THIS MESSAGE AND ADD TO IT AS WE GO? Here's what I have found:

    1) Removed trial games that cannot be deleted and replaced them with real free games (Sims and Lumines Block Challenge).
    2) Removed any music players installed by the provider. The w580i is a Walkman, so what the heck is that crud doing on there?
    3) Use any MP3 as a ringtone.
    4) Related to first 3 items above, all Digital Rights Management requirements are removed, allowing for free copying, moving and deleting of files.
    5) New themes and wallpapers
    6) Right-hand button leads to the menu instead of the music player.
    7) The Camera shutter sound is NOT cancellable, but can be changed to other sounds.
    8) The Internet is fully accessible and does not drop automatically on the service provider's music download page.

    What did I forget?

    What did I forget?
    Ability to add
    - Flash menus
    - Walkman skins
    More (initial) free space
    Better texting options (animations)
    Shortcut key (useful!!)
    TrackID(very handy)
    Network selection menus
    RSS Reader
    MP3 Ringtones
Working Light Effects (the colors are still of somehow though)

I think I remember reading that once using the same software used to debrand the phone we can change the shutter noise to a blank file... but I cannot locate where I read that, any ideas?

With mine the biggest improvements from debranding was the MP3 ringtones and the the Flash Lite themes/Flash menus. I now use the S500's Day and Night theme.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly are "flash" menus? Do you mean they are permenatly flashed on the phone inside the firmware?

Or do you mean animated icons?

    Please explain.

    Thank You

Also where can one find "flash menus"

I used the Hong Kong firmware, but that kept giving me errors so I switched to APC instead.

"flash menus" = Menus created using Adobe (bought over Macromedia) Flash Lite, a lighter version of the Flash that is used for webpages, made for phones. LIke if you check your themes now some use the flash lite animated menu like strobe. It makes the phone 10x cooler. I don't understand why Rogers would block that...
