The N95 has no 'level sensor' per se, at least the first iteration of the phone. It uses an accelerometer and it is used as shug69 suggests. It's an Analog Devices piece in the N95-1.

yeah i think its a huge liability for nokia to put a shake option in the firmware. people will accidentally throw their phone across the room then try to get it replaced. what i would like to see them do is add functinos like flip the phone over to silence a call, or snooze the alarm, auto-rotate to landscape, etc. endless uses. i cant figure why they didnt do that from the begining.

i dont have the link, but the autorotate app is now available in beta. you have to donate, and the .sis file comes unsigned. but supposedly its working flawlessly so far, autorotates the screen with rotateme 2.0.
