Forum Suggestions & Ideas

[Baldilocks]

Ok, first of all let me introduce myself for those who don't know me. I am Baldilocks or you can call me Steve if you wish.
I am here to lend curtis_tom and Moderator HF 7 a hand with the Sony Ericsson Forum and its related SubForums.

I am not here to bust anyone's chops, or to go on any kind of power trip. I just want to make sure all of you have a nice little forum to come to every day.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how to make the forum better, please let me know! I don't mind PM's or you can just leave them in here.

Some things I am already trying to work on are:

- Renaming the Wallpaper SubForum to SE Wallpaper & Themes
- Changing the descriptions of the other 2 SubForums to bring them a little more "up-to-date"

Once again, if you have any ideas or suggestions let me know!!

I have to say it's nice to have a resource like this to talk to other SE users, around here everyone's either sporting a Nokia of Motorola, and half of them are from the TDMA era.

Thanks for your efforts Baldi, I've learned new things from a lot of your posts here.

EDIT: Oh, and you already touched on my main suggestion of updating the Wallpaper forum, some of the sites you have to dig through for themes can be flat painful.

A rumors and concepts sub-forum would be nice. it can give those auto-poster thingies something to post in, yet it would still be cool to check out concepts every once in a while...

Glad to see you here moderating. I second the rumors and concepts sub-forums idea.

Also, I suggest not closing a thread when someone asks "why is phone X so expensive?"

Ok, I will see what I can do about a "rumors" thread. I dunno how that will fly with the other mods here, but I will look into it.

How about a SubForum for SE Phone Reviews, so they aren't spread out in the Main Forum??

yea, and it would be nice if you didn't close threads like mine just because u have the phone and take it personal. i think it was a very legitimate question, i mean, the phone is $50 less than the k850, which has many more features

Ok, I am in contact with the other mods and with the big guy, to see if we can get a couple new SubForums. Specifically "Sony Ericsson Phone Reviews" and "Sony Ericsson Rumors".

I am not sure how the second one will go over. The blog linking might be stopped all together. That has yet to be determined. Just though I would keep everyone updated.

Hey 'baldilocks', I was going to come in and suggest sub-forums for concepts and rumors as well, but of course I've been beaten to it.

Many of us have been complaining about the posting of rumors, un-substantiated 'news', and fake mockups amongst legitimate postings in this forum, and a sub-forum would be great not only to give those users interested in posting that kind of stuff and dedicated place to do so, and where those posts will be welcomed, but also the possibility of a 'rule' to be enforced where those types of threads must be created in said sub-forum, or at least moved there. Sounds like great progress, and a much cleaner HoFo!
However, even in the creation of such a sub-forum, there's still a potential for problems and confusion! Rumors could mean legitimate information about an unconfirmed upcoming phone model... concepts -- user-created mockups -- could be passed off as rumors, when actually they are NOT rumors.

I think this has been the reason for a few other users' suggestion of two sub-forums, and I wanted to chime in with a little support for such an idea.

One idea I like, albeit stolen from Esato's organization, is an Accessories sub-forum, by mfgr -- so a Sony Ericsson Accessories sub-forum. Is that reasonable?

Also I'd like to thank you for taking some initiative around here... it's nice to see some forward-thinking (rather than a 'cruise control "deal with issues that arise as they happen" ' ) attitude, and reaching out to your existing user-base for ideas. I've submitted issues to mods a few times around here (the feature to do so is very prominently displayed and easy, unlike some other forums!), and I got the 'deaf ears' feeling (whether true or not...), and would have volunteered to be a moderator myself...

And please forgive me for the few screwups I might make along the way. I cannot alwayws be here to address every issue/post. But I do spend a couple hours of my free time trying to get a feel for what you guys/gals think might make the SE forum cleaner and easier to view--that's why I decided to start this thread.

I just loaded the forum and saw 5 or 6 locked threads all in a row and I notice that you're wanting to keep the forum clean. I suggest sending a PM to the member (especially if they're new) and then just delete/move the thread.

And make the link to stickies like rules/FAQs really stand out in large letters or something.

Threads simply aren't deleted unless they meet certain requirements--nothing I can do about that.

Now, on another topic, we are going to be getting a Sony Ericsson Phone/Equipment Review Forum shortly. Will make it a lot easier to find user reviews of your favorite SE products.

You say you can't do anything about that, but you're also wanting to take suggestions and make changes... so why can't you just get the ball rolling on getting changes made towards those requirements?

Or just be creative about it. It's pretty common sense: why would you bump up a thread with useless info to the front page by adding an additional reply - and said reply would just be an IBTL style reply too! Amazing example from a mod. Loading up the front page of a forum and seeing about 1/4 of the threads on there locked doesn't really fit in the definition of being uncluttered.

And what the heck happened to the original SE pic of the day thread? That was a goldmine and all in all, real neat to see the progress been made ever since the earlier cameraphones.
