I noticed that IMate has indicated that Amazon and Best Buy will be a supplier of the new Ultimate 8150 phone, along with some other authorized retailers. I read here and there that the phone should be available in the US in mid December. This phone does it all, and I can not wait to see if it is really as good as they advertise.
Do you think Best Buy will actually sell it in stores, or will it likely be an online purchase item only? Does anyone have any insight on the actual release date and availability? I am suprised this phone, along with the 6150, hasn't been bigger news!

Eten x800 got build-in Sirf III GPS, 6150 doesnt.
Eten x800 also shorter then 6150.
Yeah, but there is a whole worls of Realtors out here who need a phone with Infrared, for real estate lock box operation. That limits us to some Palm stuff, and Cingular 8525, which is a dinosaur. (Must be Palm or windows based devices). I particularly like the numeric keypad of the 8150, as I use it more as a phone than for messaging. For the longest time the Pantech C810 was advertised as having Infrared, and even the Cingular site said it did, AFTER the release. However, it did not, and so there are no GSM 3g, WiFi, quad band (need 850 mhz in the US!) IRdA phones out there, yet.
But Eten has less memory.Originally Posted by netboy

Depends on the person I guess, I've had devices with GPS and without GPS. It's handy to have a GPS built into the device but for me it's not that big a deal since I find I only use my GPS in the car and my external bluetooth GPS reciever works better than any of the built in GPS devices I've used. I even use it sometimes with my current device which has GPS built in.Originally Posted by netboy
Though with that said for the price and specs of the ultimate series, it's kind of surprising that they couldn't have built in GPS. Seems every WM device out there is short of one or two features from being the perfect all in one device.
As for memory vs gps. Memory has a difinate advantage in my opinion. From the screen shots I've seen, the 8150 has close to 70 Megs program memory free and that's without disabling any of the stuff Imate crams on at startup. That's enough memory to keep Poutlook, Contacts, Calander and Notes loaded in memory at all times for quick response and still have more memory than most other WM6 devices out there.
The biggest knock I have with the 8150 is that dimensions, it's a little big. The original dimensions when it was first announced were 94mm x 50mm x 11mm, now it's 118.5mm x 60.5mm x 15.5 mm. The former deminsions even with the lack of GPS would have made this the smallest, even smaller than most non-smartphone candybar style phones and best featured smartphone out there.
As for Imate support, I've had a few Imate devices, never had any support issues with them, granted they were made by HTC but I had some HTC devices too and found Imate's support to be much better than HTC.
I'm still thinking of picking one up will have to get one in my hands first to see the size but going with Imate's name, ULTIMATELY, I'd like to see a phone like the 8150 with the original announced deminsions, throw in GPS and add a SureType keypad instead of the T9 number pad. That would make it the absolute ultimate device. And much better than the 9502, I can't understand why people find a long qwerty keyboard like the TyTn's, 9502... so appealing. I mean you're taking a 10 finger input method and using it with two fingers, there are much better input methods out there. SureType is the best, once you get used to it.
Available 11/15? How's that working out for you?Originally Posted by bgeiger

Hello all
I have spent the past 2 months deciding between the eten x800 and the imate 9502 and the imate 6150. I have decided on the 6150 and I will explain why. I am currently using a tytnii and have been for the last 2 months but find it sluggish and the 320x240 screen is crap imho and the camera is slow and their is no flash.
The eten x800 is 3g ON PAPER ONLY. No x800 has ever attained even close to 3g speeds. A tytnii beside a x800 (tytn 400kbps and the x800 under 100kbps). The eten forums are FULL of x800 users complaining about choppy video playback and MANY MANY MANY other issues (many attributed to the low 64 mb ram available) and **** drivers and **** programming and **** support (in all fairness a new x800 rom came out a few days ago and I'm waiting to hear if it MAGICALLY SOLVED THE MULTITUDE OF PROBLEMS affecting the x800.
The 9502 is awesome but just too damn thick (it does have gps but no zoom on the camera and with only a 400mhz processor and no seperate graphics processor like the 6150 it will probably lag on video playback. The 8150 is kewl but I find vga on a 2.6 screen barely unacceptable and the 2.8 vga screen on the 6150 barely acceptable. I have both the imate 9502 and 6150 on preorder. I will need a good onscreen keyboard to make the 6150 useable to me however It fits all my needs AND HAS USB OTG. The lack of gps on the 6150 doesn't affect me as i only use gps in my car so i will use external gps in my car.
End rant.
Cheers all,
ps welectronics is where i preordered my 6150 and they say the 6150's and 8150's arrive in 2 days (tuesday). They say they willl also ship out this tuesday. Xpansys.ca is where i preordered my 9502.

I mates are no longer made by HTC. They split a while ago. Imates devices are going to be manufactured by another ODM. I can't remember the name, but I remember people saying that it is the largest ODM in the business. I heard that the ultimates are well made and feel great quality wise. I'm disappointed that the 9502 doesnt seem like it will make it this year, but will get it in the spring.
The appeal to me is using the KB in landscape orientation. Better for internet browsing.Originally Posted by shoey5
This is an excellent point I didn't consider, though with the 640x480 display, I personally would still rather have a SureType keyboard on the 8150. Or even better, a phone where instead of flipping the keyboard out, you could physically turn the screen sideways like some phones out thereOriginally Posted by JKingGrim

reason i thinking of getting 6150 is cus of 3.5HSDPA and VGA.
i have a eten x800, but that thing only do regular 3G umts speed around 360kb, they advertised it as 3.5G hsdpa! someone should file a lawsuit on them for false advertising!
Sorry for the late reply. I was on Vacation in Cuba (I'm
Canadian so my government respects my freedom to travel).
I cancelled my preorders and am now pondering the touch cruise. I think that at this point for me to buy anything would be sheer stupidity on my part. I own a tytnii and it is far from perfect but I want my next move to be to a vga screen at least without giving up any of the functionality of the tytnii (except I would give up the hard keyboard for a capacitive touchscreen). With Ceda (i think its called ceda or something like that) being over in 2 weeks it would be nuts to make a purchase now. Many cellphones are announced and sometimes even released (rarely I grant you) during or soon thereafter the show. The reviews of the 6150 are absolute crap. The battery doesn't last long and the os is barely modified to make use of the fact that the 6150 is a touchscreen only phone (windows is **** for touchscreen....i may eat my words when the meizu m8 comes out on a modified windows 6.0 base). Basically all owners I have read say it SUX except for one guy who can't spell. If the reviews of the 6150 (editorial and owner) were decent then I would buy it but the battery dont last and MANY are being returned. Just check expansys stock as it hit 67 and now is back over 74 due to returns I believe.
Cheers,
