Sidekick LX is really getting on my nerves...

    OK.

I have the Wing, and decided to give the LX a try, since it seemed to be significantly improved over the Sidekick II.

However, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I set up Gmail on my device - tried POP first, it wouldn't download any emails. Changed to IMAP, it downloaded emails at a VERY slow pace, then sped up, but it stopped at October emails. Changed it back to POP, haven't gotten a single email since.

I sent a test email to my tmail account (which was still active from my Sidekick II days with a bunch of spam I had to delete), didn't come through.

Now, every so often, I'll get a blast with a bunch of old emails from the Gmail account - emails I've already deleted, in some cases.

    Any ideas?

Gmail and pop is kinda funky. Have downloaded through pop gmail emails that I have deleted a long time ago. After you download them all, shouldn't happen anymore as long as you don't touch the pop settings on the gmail I would think.

Yeah, I got the Sidekick Data plan - no voice plan on this line.

Now it's caught up to November but it's dirt slow at retrieving the emails. I thought I remembered it being pushed, but it sure doesn't seem like it. Email is taking upwards of an hour to reach the thing.

i gave up on popping GMAIL to the SK and just set a forward and kept all my messages in my gmail account (I rarely delete anything anyway and I don't get a bunch of spam). This method makes it pretty instant.

That being said, it just took an hour for a message to arrive (just now), and I have had some mail error messages bounce back, so Tmo/Danger could be having server issues.

I have had issues the last couple of days with txt messages and Tmail messages taking an hour or longer to be delivered/received as well. Can anyone confirm that it is infact the network and not the phone? I purchased the Slide on Tuesday and replaced it yesterday with the LX because of that and am STILL having the same problem... ughhhhhh

OK - now it seems to be caught up, but it's...yeah...about 5 minutes delay in getting email. Really disturbing. I'm spoiled by BlackBerry Internet Services' ability to push POP email directly to the phone, sometimes even faster than the mail client. I'm just tired of the RIM OS - it's antiquated and too limited; the apps I need aren't available for it. Danger isn't much better with their restrictions, but at least I can count on being able to IM, text and email without spending more than $30/month. Whereas BlackBerry thinks it's cool to force you to buy a text messaging plan separate instead of just rolling unlimited texts in with the $30 plan like SK.

On a side note I sent a text message to a friend and she didn't get it until 8 hours later. Now that's just unacceptable.

Are you sure you set up your Gmail account properly on the Sidekick? I have two Gmail accounts set up as POP and they work fine. Here's my settings

    -Collect email from this account
    Protocol: POP/SSL
    Mail server: pop.gmail.com
    Port: 995
    Username: XXXXXX@gmail.com
    Password: (insert password)

    And then in Gmail:
-Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on
-When messages are accessed with POP keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox

And since it's not push email, if you want to check if you have any new emails, press menu+u in the Email app to force the Sidekick to collect new emails.

I've been having delayed text messages on a "normal" phone as well for the past couple days, so I'm thinking it's a t-mo network issue and not specific to any phone.

    Cool

I also was experiencing slow email. It was taking about three or four minutes for a tmail message to come in. Tmo customer care confirmed it was a network issue that they are working on

    Update:

Got the software upgrade with the separate tabs. What a significant improvement in the visual experience, bar none. It's almost as good as the Wing's organizational layout.

    But....

I settled on IMAP for Gmail. It seemed appropriate for the new client layout. So now I have to suffer through it downloading batches of 100 emails spanning back from years ago. It's up to April 2007 now. So I figure I'll have about a month or so before I start getting new emails. I'll probably do POP forward to the Tmail account - though I really don't want to do that.

I'm still having issues with text messages. They take way too long to send. I sent a message to a friend at 4pm, she didn't get it until midnight. I tried sending to Google SMS and it took 20 minutes just to confirm it was sent.

So yeah...at this point I don't know, but the Wing is steadily calling my name. If it weren't for the cramped keyboard and forced Exchange-only push, I'd already be back on it.

Believe me thats the best thing you can do. I used that maneuver too because it acts as a PUSH service, and true push too, like the blackberry. Nicely enough tmail has that god ole "idle"
