All new phones from Verizon have a 911 alarm.

Be careful when calling 911 from your verizon phone.
Especially if you are in a dangerous situation.

It's not just Verizon. I know this also happens with Sprint's phones as well.

Nor does it stop with Sprint and VZW, OR just 911 calls. I accidentally discovered it can happen for ANY "ICE" contact - I had set my mother's phone as an "ICE" contact, and when calling her the other day, my Alltel-flashed KRZR made the most obnoxious warning noise.

So someone breaks into your house, you run to a back room or a closet to call 911, they don't know you're in there, then all of a sudden:

He's knows you're there? How does that help?

Talking Well how about this one..

I have a Gzone Type-V and with it's latest firmware "V9200M12" implements a warning siren for

    911
    611
    *611

Not sure how 611 is classified as an emergency # but oh well...
I do not know if this is something Verizon wanted or if the manufactures are starting to do, as this did not occur in the previous version ...M11 I think it was.

Since Verizon's UI is so standard all be it people like to complain about it, does make it easier to nav.

this should be easily changed fixed by going into
    Settings & Tools
    Pone Settings
    Security
(####) last 4 of your phone number
    Emergency #'s

I had to discover that on my own CS had no clue....

That varies from phone to phone as well. Mostly the older phones let you change those numbers. That's WAAAY stupid if dialing 611 gets you an alarm.

I have to say first hand, this sucks. I called 911 because I saw someone breaking into a house, and lucky enough my car windows were up so nobody could hear the lame siren my phone was making.

“The tone our customer experienced is our interpretation of Section 255 of the Telecommunications Act calling for a provider of telecommunications service to offer service that is accessible and usable by individuals with disabilities.
Can't VZW just call the FCC and ask instead of just trying to guess at the requirements?

I think if this gets enough flack, the FCC/Wireless carriers will realize what a dumb mistake it is, making this mandatory. It should be optional to turn on. It makes sense in situations where rescue personnel can't find someone, but always being "on" is a bad idea.

Maybe have it so that if you dial 911, while in call you could press the soft left or soft right key to sound the alarm? It makes more sense.

Why would she dial 911 for vandalls or trespassing...I dont' see that as a real emergency...she should have called her local police department instead of tying up the 911 system. I believe my Samsung A900 does that when I dial 911.
