So, while using the notes program, I used the stylus to "map" out the areas that don't work (read: just shaded it all in like a kid with a crayon), and the upper 1/8 or so of the touch screen doesn't read anymore. I do have the $7 insurance plan, but what are the chances that the sprint store and getting a replacement? Long shot? (going there to return the LG Rumor - wife didn't want it).
Anything I can do? I like the phone, as I just recently added the ext. battery (WOW, love the life now!) --- But I'd like to hear other's experiences with faulty (?) touch screens?
I've had the phone for 18 months, and I'd like to upgrade NOW, but don't feel like extending my contract with the "meh" discount.
everything is covered with the TEP. although I think if you go in the store and swap it out (they might have to order it) you dont have to pay the 50. maybe dont know if thats thrue for the 6700.
If you have Total Equipment Protection you should NOT be going through Asurion for equipment issues. They will replace faulty equipment if you insist, but it'll cost you $50 you wouldn't have to pay for a swap at the store level under ESRP.

Also, do they "cover" battery life issues? After 18 months, the OEM battery will only handle ONE ten-fifteen minute phone call, hence the purchase for the ext. batt.
Is the PPC6700 even offered anymore?!
Do I have to go into the store to make all this happen? (I have to go in anyway with my printed email authorized return for the unwanted LG Rumor).
I can only speak from experience in an Authorized Service Center (third-party Sprint) environment; procedures and policies in a corporate service center may vary. Everything below is from an ASC perspective:
Batteries are not technically covered under ESRP. However, the store can easily request a battery be sent when ordering the replacement device, without any additional cost to the store. I know a lot of ASC's do this automatically and then keep the replacement batteries on hand to sell as replacement units or for customer satisfaction swaps. Ask nicely and they will probably be willing to order a replacement battery for you.
(EDIT: If they refuse to order a battery for you, PM me.)
The manufacturer's warranty may or may not cover the battery beyond 90 days; refer to the owner's manual for those details. I do not know what the Audiovox policy is on the PPC-6700. I know Audiovox traditionally provided only a 90-day warranty on batteries when I sold their products for Verizon Wireless.
The PPC-6700 is still available for warranty swaps under ESRP. I will advise you to do one thing when you receive the replacement unit, though. Look in the battery compartment, under the battery, in the lower left corner. There should be a small, square, white moisture indicator sticker. Make sure it's there. I've seen an alarming number of replacement 6700's coming in from the service depot with this sticker activated (pink or red) or, worse yet, missing. If it's activated or missing, your unit will not be covered under ESRP going forward and you will need to file an insurance claim for any issues. While anyone should always inspect a replacement phone before accepting it from any service center, be particularly careful with the 6700.
You will need to appear in the store to have the unit replaced. In an ASC, the device will need to be ordered. If it's a corporate store, they may have some on hand. Again, I'm not sure about how things work in the company-owned service centers. There are folks here on HoFo that are qualified to chime in on that. If it's an ASC, expect a turnaround time of 3 to 5 business days, and of course a return trip to pick up the new device. Do one last ActiveSync before you go. Service centers can transfer your phone book, and, while technically possible to transfer some other data, most are reluctant to do so simply because of the time required to do so. Be prepared.
