So I got my u900 yesterday and have been attempting to access the filesystem and other stuff since I took it out of the box. Here are my results thus far...
Used the drivers contained in the VZW Music Essential Kits for Samsung phones. Installed the drivers just fine and Bitpim see's the phone on COM4 - Samsung Diagnostic Modem.
However, when selecting Other CDMA Phone and trying to access the filesystem I get an error:
PHP Code:
17:59:13.717 COM4: Opening port COM4, 115200 baud, timeout 3.000000, hardwareflow 0, softwareflow 0
17:59:13.717 COM4: Open of comm port suceeded
17:59:13.717 Other CDMA Phone: Listing subdirs in dir: ''
17:59:13.750 Other CDMA Phone: Error decoding response Data - 3 bytes
<#! phones.p_brew.memoryconfigresponse !#>
00000000 47 59 0c GY.
Original Data - 3 bytes
00000000 47 59 0c 3c 82 7e GY.<.~
17:59:13.750 Failed to read filesystem
I then tried to pull the filesystem using QPST. Using that app I was able to view the filesystem in full. However I was unable to read/write to the phone. I get error 266 Failed To Open File. However, I did find where some things are stored.
This where I've gotten so far. Didnt see any threads dedicated to this, so I apologize if this topic has been started else where. Anyone have any ideas?
I have been trying to connect to the U900 using BitPim, to no avail. Do you have any experience with this software? I got it to work with my old SCH-A970, and it would allow me to download custome ringtones, which is really all I want to do, but I am having no luck with being able to connect to the U900.....
I'm (very) new to this. I just got a Bluetooth usb thingy. Once BitPim is figured out, will I be able to transfer stuff via Bluetooth the same as a USB cord? Or, will I have to buy the cord too?
I was only able to get a custom ringtone by putting a mp3 that is less than 500kb in the sounds folder, then attach the sound to a pic message to your self.
If will cost you 2 messages. (one send one recieve)
Save the sound as a ringtone.
It will now be in your ringtones list.
(*make sure sounds are set to save in your phone, not the microsd card)
Has anybody had success opening the file system somehow?
i tried both usb drivers cdma modem and diagnostic something
in both music and modem mode on the phone.....
Per my first post, I have successfully been able to view the filesystem, using the diagnostic modem drivers that came on the music essentials kit/download. However the phone seems to be in some sort of lock, because it doesnt allow reading or writing to/from the phone.

While I can't access the file system with BitPim, I can use EFS Explorer in QPST.
In Phone's memory....
Pictures are stored in /brew/mod/10888
Ringtones are stored in /brew/mod/mr
Videos are stored in /brew/mod/10890
Sounds (non-ringtones) are stored in /brew/mod/18067
Like the U620, you can just add .MID or .MP3 files to the /brew/mod/MR folder, restart the phone, and use them as ring tones.
I have been able to read/write each of those folders using QPST 2.7 build 231
When it comes to the Phone's memory, Files for the Music Player go in /brew/mod/10889
But keep in mind, the phone only has about 56 meg total. Of that only about 38 meg is free. So you're not going to fit too many tunes in the phone's memory.
just about an hour ago, i used qpst to access the file system and add 5 ringers to the brew/mr folder
the same way the u620 works, NO hex editing the mrinfo file, just but them in and reboot boot the phone bingo, they work ( thanks mark_venture )
qpst recognizes the phone as model SURF6550 - ZR6500 (NAND8)
so if qpst doesn't auto recognize it choose that model from the settings
also you will likely have to do add port in the configuration window and choose the QTC Diagnostic port, as the one for the phone,
then choose the model if its not detected
start the EFS explorer client for file work and let it read the phone ( takes a few minutes )
THEN
brew/mr, right click new / file and add your mp3 ringtone
repeat as needed ( remember don't over do it ) keep it to 12 0r less to be safe on memory
exit the window, say yes to restarting the phone.
it will shut off, you might have to restart manually,
your tones will be there ready to use
OK - I need a little help getting QPST to connect to my phone. I have used BitPim, but this is a little different. Is there any way you could do a little step-by-step on how to set up QSPT for the U900, from what selection to make once the phone is plugged into the PC (Copy From/To Card, Sync Music or Modem) to which application to open first in QPST and how to set it up to recognize the phone. I am very anxious to get this set up, but I need a little help. It looks like you and mark_venture are on top of this - so if either of you could PM or post the procedure, it would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you in advance. Way to go guys!

Plug phone into PC via USB cable.
Select MODEM as the USB mode.
Oh, sorry one assumoption I made.. that you have the USB cable and drivers already installed...
Well - I have the drivers that came with the USB cable - not saying that they are the right ones. Are there ones that I SHOULD be using rather tahn those? If so - do you have them available?
