For a manufacturer to "add" UMA support into a previously existing production handset, would be retarded. There are too many factors to take into account, it's not just a huge stack re-write, which in itself would be a headache and a half. Chances are the handsets WON'T be "smart" ala running Windows Mobile. I hear Nokia knocking.

With a USB modem from bell with the unlimited data.... you’ll have a portable ap...... A mini city fido if you wanted to =)
No, all UMA calls pass through the carrier's gateway (GANC). In the scenario you provided, all your calls can still be billed, but you will rely on Bell's cellular coverage rather than Rogers'
Hi, logging online to my cell phone account I see a new option, in wireless services, that says:
"Register for home calling zone service".
There is very limited information as to what this actually is other than:
"Home Calling Zone option allows you to use one Wireless Phone for home and mobile calling – so you can connect with friends the way you want. You can also take advantage of great competitive International Long Distance rates."
I don't know why I am even responding to your reply, however, the information I provided was a lot more "applicable" and useful than your initial post. You probably clicked the same link and read the exact same thing as OP with a clueless look on your face the whole time.
Oh, you added "UMA" to give him some sort of "help". So it could have gone two ways, he posts a reply asking "what is UMA?" and gets the information, or he searches for "UMA" and finds the same link provided. I just saved him those steps in between by providing him with a link that answers his question.
I was talking to a Rogers BlackBerry tech yesterday and he said that they were about 2 weeks from releasing wifi BlackBerry handhelds. ie 8820, 8320 and 8120 all to go with the UMA access they are releasing.
^ I think the OP and I are hoping this new development means something to someone on the 'inside', seeing as the other thread (one which I subscribe to, btw) went stale. Neither of us posted to have you come on and say "search much?".
And I don't get the "clueless look" much btw, I have been an avid reader of this forum for over four years now so I tend to keep up on these things.
