I don't think you will be able to use ANY wifi spot but that your account will have to have the router address in it... meaning you will have to call Rogers or go into a dealer store to have a router added to your account.
I'm 99% sure that you won't be able to just connect to any WiFi anywhere without your account being setup for that router...
Only time will tell...
The other one is a Samsung A707 or A516 variant.
Oh and in all likelihood won't be able to get any wifi signal other than your in-home one ....and not even for browsing...but for the UMA alone.
What I am saying is that your account will be able to be registered for probably up to 5 routers so if you had one at work and home you could use both for UMA.
I also wouldn't count on WiFi browsing but really anyone buying a Nokia 6086 for like $0 on a 3-year doesn't need it anyways...
Anyways this thread will go on forever until we get official word... haha

Hmmmm interesting possibilities aren't there.
I doubt the average cubicle Joe won't be installing his own personal Rogers UMA at work, but quite possibly mom & pop stores may want to consider doing this? Would Rogers support it for OTHER THAN the home? Interesting.
I can see a future where employers will provision for (for a fee?) their employees to receive UMA at work? May ease the transition of those people who work on-call., need to respond to tasks/assignments? Will GREATLY simplify things. Long gone are the days of "oh he's out of the office"., instead the call gets auto-redirected to the cell?
So i heard from Customer Relations that Rogers is comming out with a Home Zone program, where, you use your internet connection with a wireless router to use in conjunction. Only drawback is that there is 2 phones that will currently work. One was the blackberry pearl with wifi and wasn't sure as of yet of the other phone. He said that the pricing from what he heard is 15 a month and you can call locally unlimited in your calling zone I.E. Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, etc. Kind of perplexed as to how the router will be used if you are like calling from North Vancouver and your Router is in Richmond
Any one can elaborate?
Thanks
From what I understand it's not just your router it's anywhere you can access wifi in your home zone.
Yea, its slightly different then TMO's implemetation. And won't require a rogers router- alothough they'll be available- as long as you've got wifi, you've got "home zone" calling
What is Home Calling Zone – Creates an unlimited wireless calling zone in your home.
All you need is:
Home Calling Zone enabled handset
Home Calling Zone add-on
$15 Unlimited Local Calling
$20 Unlimited Canadian Long Distance and Local Calling
Router – preferably the Voice Optimized router available from Rogers
Hi-speed Internet connection – Rogers or other provider
What if my internet service goes down?
The call gets transferred back to the GSM network. There is seamless handoff between the two.
If I don’t get GSM coverage, will it still work?
Yes. This is great for places where a GSM signal doesn’t exist or is fairly weak.
The handset also displays which network is in use and/or available.
Can I use the service outside my home calling zone?
Yes. It will work in any open WiFi network. If a passcode exists to access the WiFi network, you will need to know it. Will not work in Hotspots where a WiFi subscription is needed.
Will my data usage also go over WiFi?
No. Not at this time.
Do all my services work as it does on GSM?
Yes. Two differences: Long Distance (LD) and 911.
On GSM, LD is billed based on where you are. On HCZ, LD is billed based on your area code.
911 differs and will require express consent and info from customers.
Are there limitations to the generic or voice optimized routers?
Yes. Only 5 sessions can go on at the same time.
Example: 3 phones, 1 Xbox and 1 laptop can access a router at the same time.
I just found this like one my rogers wireless service page, and have no ideal what it is ? Or it means I can share a same number with my rogers home phone,?
Not available till May 2008 - dont worry about it till then

Any more word on this yet? It would be truly awesome if Rogers got this going (and charged a flat rate, not something like "long distance is on 20cents a minute!")
awe crap, now I don't know in which thread to post. I'm just going to say it. To charge $20 for you to be able to use your OWN internet access seems ridiculous. At least TMo's $10 seemed reasonable.
