Will AT&T get the small/slim USB727 from Novatel?

Some of my staff members who use AT&T USB modems are wondering when AT&T is going to launch a small thin USB modem like the Novatel USB727 with HSUPA capability.

    I want one myself.

Any takers? The 881 is a really big eye soar and clunky. A lot of them use 12" PowerBook G4 MACS with no PCMIA or Express slot.

AT&T sure doesn't seem to be in a rush to launch any new 3G data modems as of late and they're pretty mum about their 3G expansion compared to last year when they said they'd have most of the US population blanketed.

    Any credible information appreciated.

    Thanks!

Simple answer: If you're disappointed with AT&T's lineup of device offerings, go find a different carrier and don't complain about it. Complaining doesn't get anyone anywhere with AT&T.

Longer answer (a more "corporate" response, if you will): AT&T will launch new devices in time. "In time" meaning that it could be tomorrow, or it could be next year. Right now they're more concerned with making the 3G network more widely spread in the US, so you might see new equipment being launched in the near future.

I thought the U727 was only a CDMA modem.

    You must work in retail.

Some of our users want to use AT&T's 3G network services but simply wish/hope for a specific device. Surely that is not too much to stomach?

Until T-Mobile offers a real vialble 3G laptop connect type of solution, we have to use Verizon or AT&T. Some employees prefer one over the other so I try to be accomodating.

I know I can't change the world with my request, but I was hoping some new similar devices were coming down the pipeline and that some employees might be privy to some of that inforrmation. That's all. No harm, no foul.

    Thanks.

Yeah it is. We just have some AT&T users in our group who want a similar styled device using their network.

Many people in our group are former employees of respective wireless carriers so they are a little bias to using one network over another.

Umm, are you guys not aware that the biggest advantage of being on a GSM carrier is that you don't depend on your carrier for equipment? Just buy a PC card (or Expresscard depending on your laptop) on the Internet and slip your SIM card into it and you're good to go.

For personal use - yeah, that wouldn't be an issue. For corporate use, it wouldn't be practical paying $ 300 a pop for an unlocked Ovation MC950 with zero carrier support.

I would buy one if at&t sold these through their Premier site with our corporate FAN discount.

I'd really like the MC950 Ovation from Novatel to be made available through at&t B2B channels. http://www.novatelwireless.com/produ...on/mc950d.html

That way, we'd get a better price on the HW and get full support for it if needed.
