    Duo won't sync contacts

So my girlfriend got a Duo for Christmas and we were trying to set it up to sync with the Outlook trial it ships with. She's always loved Gmail (remember the invite-only days?), so syncing contacts/appointments is about the only value outlook has for her. When we set it up, none of her contacts would sync. They were all on the SIM card. So I copied them to the local memory and synced again - still nothing. Her machine is on Vista. Anyone else have this problem?

FYI: I've owned several WM phones, and know my way around Outlook, ActiveSync, and WMDC. I checked that it is syncing properly, and it is set to sync contacts. Odd thing is we couldn't even create new contacts in Outlook - which leads me to think this may be an outlook issue. I use 2k3 but I don't know why 2k7 would be much different.

    More mystery:

Whatever was stopping Outlook from adding contacts has passed (after a system restart). Now when I create a new contact in Outlook, it successfully syncs to the phone. However, if I create a new contact on the phone (as well as all existing contacts), they do not sync over.

I'm almost certain at this point it has something to do with the SIM card. All my previous WM experience is on Sprint, so there's only the one place to store contacts.

Is it possible to sync from sim card to outlook?
